Proxy information Your written permission is needed anytime you authorize someone else to conduct any transactions in the Admissions and Records Office on your behalf. You will need to provide your proxy with the following: • Written permission, which includes your proxy’s name, your signature, and detailed information on what transaction you authorize them to do; • Student ID number and birth date; • Your name, address and telephone number. Your proxy will need to show a valid photo ID before any transactions are completed.

Attendance If you miss the first class meeting or are absent for the equivalent of two weeks without approval, you may be dropped by the instructor. If you do not attend class but fail to drop the class by the refund deadline, you are still responsible for the registration fees.

Withdrawing from a class You must officially drop classes through the online registration system or at the Admissions and Records Office. Non-attendance can result in an “F” grade and will cause you to lose your enrollment fees. If the class fee has not been paid and the class is not officially dropped, the unpaid fee will become an outstanding debt on your record. It is the student’s responsibility to drop a class, not the instructor’s. If 75 percent or more of the instruction time has elapsed, you cannot withdraw and will be subject to an “F” grade.

Refund checks will be issued monthly after the first two weeks of instruction each semester (fall and spring only). Non-refundable fees The $8 ASDVC discount sticker fee is not refundable. This refund policy complies with and is based upon California law and the Education Code.

Prerequisites Enrolling in DVC courses with prerequisites or co-requisites If you are enrolling in a course with a prerequisite, you must complete that prerequisite with a “C” grade or better before you are allowed to register. A course has a prerequisite to ensure that you have the appropriate body of knowledge to be successful. Courses with a co-requisite require that you either have taken the co-requisite course prior or take the co-requisite course at the same time.

Usually a prerequisite is a course from a lower sequence of courses. For example, you may not enroll in Math 142 (Elementary Statistics with Probability) without first passing Math 120 (Intermediate Algebra or equivalent) with a “C” grade or better. Usually, a co-requisite course is a lab or a course that provides supplemental instruction. To see which courses have prerequisites and/or co-requisites see the individual course offerings in the catalog. To register for a course with a prerequisite If you have completed the prerequisite course with a “C” grade or higher, at DVC fall 1999 or later, you will have the prerequisite automatically cleared upon registration. If the prerequisite course was completed at DVC, CCC or LMC prior to fall 1999, contact the Admissions and Records Office for assistance. If the prerequisite course was completed at another educational institution, the Admissions and Records Office must clear the requirement prior to registering. All prerequisite equivalency forms must have the appropriate documentation attached. Online registration There are a two ways to do this: 1. submit an unofficial or official transcript with a prerequisite equivalency form to the Admissions and Records Office; OR 2. fax an unofficial transcript with a prerequisite equivalency form. You will be notified of the results in two to three business days. If approved, you may register on or after your registration appointment time. Registration for a co-requisite/ prerequisite course Some courses allow you to take the required course either as a co-requisite (concurrently) or as a prerequisite (previously). With Math 195, for example, the required course, Math 193, may be taken either as a prerequisite or a co-requisite. Depending on how you are satisfying the requirement, you may need to register in-person at the Admissions and Records Office on or after your registration time.

How do I manage my waitlist?

Go to www.dvc.edu

The waitlist is a way to prioritize the enrollment of students after a class has reached its maximum. There are no guarantees that you will be enrolled from the waitlist; therefore, it is always best to enroll in a class with open seats. If you are still on a waitlist when the class begins, the instructor cannot consider adding you to the class unless you attend the first class meeting.

COUNS-095 Orientation to College

M T W TH 3/31-4/4

6:30-7:45 p.m.

Take your assessment test at least four business days before orientation so that the counselor teaching your Counseling 095 class can review your scores and recommend the correct courses. Students should bring an unofficial copy of their high school transcripts (if applicable) as well as their assessment score print-outs to the Counseling 095 class meeting. Students should also review the DVC online catalog and class schedule before coming to class. Saturday classes include a lunch break.

Effective Fall 2014 the state will begin mandating enrollment priorities as follows: • Veterans and Foster Youth will receive the first priority • DSS and EOPS students will have the second priority. • Continuing students will maintain the current registration appointment system. • New students who have completed assessment, orientation and an educational plan will receive a priority registration appointment. • All categories of students with priority registration status will lose their registration priority if they exceed 100 units or have two consecutive semesters on probation. 24 | Diablo Valley College | 925-685-1230 | SUMMER 2014
