This puppet troupe is made up of staff members from multiple library locations. They perform at each facility, to the delight of the library’s youngest patrons.

Writing Groups

Budding authors can discuss ideas and get critiques at writing groups offered at many of the regional libraries.

 Local Performers

Actors perform new interpretations of fairy tale favorites, dancers lead children and adults to join in, and musicians fill the libraries with joyful sounds. Durham’s rich palettes of talented performers weave their magic at the library during Summer Reading and throughout the year. Book Clubs

Mystery to women authors, over 40 to culinary arts, there are book clubs offered throughout the system to pique any interest. Videogaming

This stealthy way to build cooperation skills and teamwork is also proven to entice teens to try other library services.

Geocaching

A digital scavenger hunt, geocaching is played with a GPS, or a GPS-equipped smart phone. Players get coordinates, hints and clues to learn the exact location of the treasure. Once they find it, they win a little prize and leave a little prize of their own for the next person.

 DCL Kids’ Comics Blob

Children learn to create their own comics at the annual Comics Fest and year-round workshops at many libraries. The children’s masterpieces are posted on the “blob” – dclcomics.wordpress.com – a special blog for parents and friends to enjoy.
