ERIC HART Eric Hart was named the Delaware State University Interim Director of Athletics on January 4, 2012 Hart was introduced as the associate athletic director for academic services on July 1, 2009. Hart brings with him a wealth of knowledge in higher education and athletic administration. He is committed to the total well being of student-athletes and believes that graduating with a baccalaureate degree is the cornerstone of the student-athlete experience. Under Hart’s leadership, Delaware State University student-athletes have boasted the highest academic marks in school history. Delaware State University lead the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) with 122 Commissioner’s All-Academic team during the 2010 academic year; up from 98 the year before. Delaware State University placed 166 student-athletes on its Hornet Honor Roll during the fall 2009 semester; with 73 student-athletes earning Dean’s List (3.25 or higher) and 33 studentathletes earning President’s List (4.00). During the University’s Honor’s Night celebration 2010, six student-athletes earned the distinction of Departmental Scholar’s (their respective department’s highest honor bestowed upon a student at Delaware State). In 2011, Delaware State University inducted 39 student-athletes with a 3.40 cumulative grade point average or higher into Chi Alpha Sigma National StudentAthlete Honor Society.

Hart has help guide three teams at Delaware State University to achieve scores of 1000 on the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate’s single year score (Women’s Soccer, Men’s Tennis and Volleyball). During the 2009-2010 APR cycle, Men’s Basketball saw a 134 point increase on their single year score. Hart and his staff have aspirations to see team improve upon their Academic Progress Rate (single and multi-year scores). In addition to his responsibilities within Academic Services, he has helped serve on a multitude of committees, including search committees that netted the University’s Registrar, Head Football Coach (Kermit Blount), and Director of Academic Enrichment services. He also plays an integral role on the University’s Retention, Self-Study, Academic Calendar, Academic Progress Rate (co-chair) and Academic Advising committees. Beginning in the fall 2011, Eric will

be serving as Peer Reviewer with the NCAA’s Athletic Certification Review. Prior to his arrival to Delaware State University, he served as the associate director for academic services for student-athletes at Appalachian State University from 2006 until his departure in June 2009. He was the driving force in turning around a wrestling program that, prior to his arrival, had a cumulative grade point average of 2.05. In his last semester with the University, the team boasted a cumulative grade point average of 2.989. Women’s Soccer had never earned a team cumulative grade point average above a 3.00 prior to Hart’s tenure, but they achieved this feat in three consecutive semesters under his leadership. Hart helped guide 18-of-21 student-athletes from ASU to the winter 2009 Academic AllConference list. Additionally, he had 26-of-44 student-athletes earn spring 2009 Academic AllConference honors. His teams experienced success on the field as well. The ASU Football team won back-to-back National Championships and three consecutive Southern Conference Championships; the ASU Men’s Track and Field program won the indoor track and field championships in 2007, 2008, and 2009, outdoor championship in 2007 and 2008, and cross country won the conference championship in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 - all during Hart’s tenure. Hart served as an academic counselor at The University of Georgia from 2004 - 2006, working with Men’s and Women’s Golf, Softball, Men’s Basketball, Equestrian, Men’s and Women’s Track and Field. He also worked as a graduate assistant for The University of Tennessee football program, and assisted in the marketing and game day operations for football and men’s basketball. A native of Stoneville, N.C., Hart was a student athlete at Appalachian State University and earned a B.S. in elementary education (‘97), a Master of Education in school counseling at the University of Georgia (‘99), and an Ed.S. in Counseling from the University of Tennessee (‘01). He is also a 2009 graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females. He is married to Erin Hill of North Carolina, by way of Baton Rouge, La.
