A fresh start for jill

For one of Millbrook Village’s newest residents, the desire for a new beginning and a fresh start, led Jill Woodbury to search for her perfect home in Devon.

nspired by an article on Esther Rantzen, who downsized following the loss of her husband, Jill started to search for a new home where she could start afresh.

She too had lost her husband and for her, the thought of living alone in her Buckinghamshire home with all its memories was too much. Instead, she moved in with her daughter, and together they looked for the perfect retirement village where Jill could live an active life in a safe community with like-minded people.

Soon she discovered Millbrook Village in Exeter, which for her seemed a perfect match, not only because she was brought up in Devon, but also because her son lives nearby.

With the convenience of being so close to the centre of the charming cathedral city of Exeter, and with good access routes for her daughter to visit from Buckinghamshire, Jill decided to visit, and she wasn’t disappointed.

Almost instantly Jill decided to buy one of the charming three-bedroom Charlotte style cottages.

Her only challenge was to sell her existing property, which had been on the market for some time.

t’s been a busy few months once again here at Millbrook Village, and as the warm summer days and longer summer nights continue, we look forward to welcoming yet more residents and prospective purchasers to the beauty of Millbrook Village and its wonderful grounds.

Since our last newsletter much has happened. One of the highlights was the highly successful launch of our lovely new three bedroomCharlotte style cottages in April.

The sun shone, the locally sourced, home made refreshments went down a treat, and everyone remarked on the high quality finish and tasteful, contemporary interior design of the home.

It was particularly nice that several of our existing residents came along to join in the festivities and to help prospective customers get a feel for what community life is like at the village.

The walk starts from the enchanting Cricklepit Mill in Exeter at 9.30am, stops at Ducks Marsh to pick up Millbrook residents at around 10am, and goes on to the Old Sludge Beds Nature Reserve, which lies just three miles from Millbrook Village.

Millbrook Village residents will be able to join the walk for free while other walkers are subsidised by our sponsorship, which means guest can join the walk from just £5. This fascinating guided walk, which is 8 miles in length starting from Cricklepit Mill and 6 miles from Ducks Marsh, takes in freshwater reedbeds and wet-woodland where you could see Cetti’s Warblers, Reed Warblers, Sedge Warblers, Hairy Dragonflies, Ruddy Darters and much more.

mIllbrook VIllAGe GIVes TopshAm bowlInG Club An edGe Topsham Bowling Club is bringing a whole new dimension to its coaching thanks to Millbrook Village’s funding of a brand new flatscreen TV to the club.

A musical force to be reckoned with one of the most popular charity events on the Exeter musical calendar is back for a fifth time in 2015, and Millbrook Village is playing its part in making this extravaganza of entertainment possible.

lassics Galore!, which is once again co-sponsored

by Millbrook Village, will take place at the University of Exeter Great Hall on Saturday, November 14.

The event will see an uplifting selection of music performed by a 200-strong ensemble – a full orchestra, a brass band and two choral societies.

Staged to raise money for local cancer charity FORCE Classics Galore! has so far raised more than £50,000 for the charity since its first event in 2007.

Malcolm Matthews will again be the concert’s musical director, working with 50 top musicians from Exeter and East Devon who have been hand-

picked to form the Classics Galore! Symphony Orchestra.

The South West Comms Band from Lympstone, the Ottery St Mary Choral Society and members of St David’s Players will also be back to entertain.

Commenting on Classics Galore!
