hosted a kickoff cocktail reception for the committees and sponsors of the 30th Fred & Adele Astaire Awards Gala at Remi Restaurant in New York. They welcomed modern dance legend Judith Jamison to the Awarding Committee. Among the attendees were five-time Astaire Award-winner Susan Stroman, filmmaker Albert Maysles and Tony Award winning producer Emanuel Azenberg. A highlight of the evening was exhibition of the works of photographer Josh Lehrer. * * * East End Arts has announced that Brandon K. Boardman is the 2011 recipient of the Frances Ligon Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is named for Mrs. Frances Ligon, who was an avid gospel singer since childhood. Boardman is a 17-year-old senior at Riverhead High School, and is gifted academically as well as musically. Brandon has Asperger’s Syndrome and thus is the first Special Education student to graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma in the Riverhead Central School District. * * * Bridgehampton’s stylist to the stars Marc Zowine has joined the struggle to rid the world of the Kardashians. He is helping to circulate an e-mail petition and rallying the well-coiffed troops. * * * Just in time for holiday gift giving, Colonizing Southampton, The Transformation of a Long Island Community, 1870-1900, is now available. The new book, written by sociologist David Goddard, explores a pivotal time in Southampton’s unique history. * * * Dan’s Papers cooking columnist and author of Savoring the Hamptons, Silvia Lehrer, will be signing books at the Parrish Art Museum’s Parrish Presents Holiday Bazaar November 25 in Southampton. The next day, November 26, she’ll be giving a reading and signing books at Canio’s Books in Sag Harbor. * * * Ed Tuccio’s Tweeds Restaurant, in downtown Riverhead, was recently featured in a special episode of the television show “Food Paradise” on the Travel Channel. The show will run in December. Food Paradise features unique restaurants across the nation. Tweeds serves a menu featuring fresh and local ingredients and is noted for its dishes using Tuccio’s own locally-raised bison. * * * Sparkling Pointe Vineyards & Winery in Southold presented their sold-out Tete de Cuvee Grand Tasting Event last Saturday. The tasting was led by a panel of industry experts including Gilles Martin, winemaker at Sparkling Pointe, Jake Young, Court of Master Sommeliers, Christine Shields, Wine Store Owner and Wine and Spirits Education (continued on page 38)
