Talking with Riverhead’s Dr. Jesse Stoff

D

r. Jesse Stoff is a traditionally trained physician who also has extensive education and experience in the area of homeopathic medicine. In addition to his practices in Riverhead at the East End Wellness Center and in Glen Cove, Stoff is Chief Science Officer at Immune Biologics in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Director of the Stoff Institute for Medical Research, where he addresses immune system disorders and immune reconstitution. Stoff has discovered several molecular complexes, and developed a number of protocols for the therapeutic application of targeted HUC stem cells for people with cancer, autoimmune diseases, ALS and multiple sclerosis. His writings have been widely published, and he has authored or co-authored eight books, including bestsellers Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: the Hidden Epidemic and The Prostate Miracle. Stoff has held many leadership positions, including a collaboration with Dr. Bernie Siegel at Yale. While serving as medical director of a company that provided direct patient care for drug and alcohol issues, he presented cutting-edge protocols for biochemical support at an American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) convention in Washington, D.C. Stoff has also successfully trained and supervised physicians in several protocols, including clinical immunology. Medically trained at New York Medical College, Stoff’s post-doctoral education includes a fellowship at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital.

When did you decide to merge your homeopathic education with your medical training? When I was a young boy, our family doctor was a homeopathic physician...When I was in high school, he took me to homeopathic medical conferences and I began to seriously study integrative medicine. I went to medical school to make it all legal... How would you define clinical immunology? It’s the medical science of first assessing immune function and then Dr. jesse Stoff using nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals and lifestyle changes to correct dysfunctions of the immune system as they impact severe and chronic diseases to speed up the healing process. You help patients in many ways, including diet (cow’s milk—no, almond milk—yes), as well as infusions of vitamins, minerals and antigens. How do you decide what a patient needs? All severe and chromic diseases have, to a greater or lesser extent, a degree of immune dysfunction at the core of the disease process. Supporting and, when necessary, shifting the immune response can help most illnesses. I base my decisions on the patient’s medical history, physical findings and the results of immune structure and function tests.

Then it boils down to unwinding the layers of problems one at a time, utilizing the safest modalities possible. Whether it be a child with allergies or helping a woman try and stay in remission from her breast cancer, the process is similar. Are there some conditions you think are better treated elsewhere, and do you refer patients to other modalities and treatment facilities? I work with many other physicians: general surgeons for biopsies, vascular surgeons to place medi-ports, cardiologists to assess cardiac function, and on and on. When special skills and procedures are needed, I refer my patients to the best physicians that I know in the field. I used to be on the clinical nutrition board of cancer treatment centers and have come to know many specialists around the country. Thinkstock.com
