Hello D38W owls! Summer is halfway over and I hope you have all enjoyed it as much as I have! We can all get incredibly busy with plans we’ve made for summer but hopefully you can all find the time to come to our events because they’re so much fun and you wouldn’t want to miss out. In the last month we have already done such amazing things together and I can’t wait to see even more of our bee-autiful owls in our upcoming events.
Just keep hooting!

Aloha Owls! Wow, has June really gone by this quickly? I can hardly BEE-lieve it! This month of June has truly been a roller coaster ride for me, filled with ups and downs and wild twists and turns. Various club duties such as hosting meetings, training conferences, and organizing fundraisers have all gotten a hold of me, but through it all, I received the motivation to push on just by thinking of the wonderful Owls I serve! Personally, one of the greatest things that happened to me this month was the Officer Training Conference. I spend countless nights going over the program and the agenda, in order to make sure that the conference would be a meaningful and a worthwhile experience for all of you. But the training conference exceeded my expectations, not because of the work I put in, nor the food that was served (though it was pretty bomb!) but the limitless passion and dedication that you all showed through the workshops, ice-breakers, the spirit session, and yes, even lunch! I just want to conclude by thanking all of you who made this month the best that it can be, and also by reminding you that the summer is not yet over! Get out there and plan service projects and fundraisers, and build your homes, schools, and communities!
And bee sure to drink lots of water!

May DCM/ Teleconference
Due to everyone’s busy schedules during the month of May our DCM was held through a teleconference. We had representatives from various schools who phoned in and shared their opinions on past and upcoming events. Although hosting DCM’s in places where everyone can be in the same room or area at the same time can be much more fun they’re both equally as effective when it comes to giving out information!

Fundraiser “Chili’s is a marvelous place to have fundraisers at. Not only because of their great food but also because they don’t make you present your flyer when you’re paying and anybody who goes can just go ahead and drop their receipt right into the box and donate a percentage of all they spent to whatever the cause may be! Something that made this fundraiser even greater was that this fundraiser was dedicated solely towards raising funds for Angelina. -Jorge Alonso, The Palmdale Aerospace Academy

Kiwanis 5k Run
"It was a very great and touching experience because of the multiple veterans there and learning about their stories." -Emelie Quintero, SOAR High School

“On June 7th we were invited to volunteer in the 5Klicks to Home 5k race hosted by our local Kiwanis Club. Key Clubbers from all over our division had lots of fun cheering on all of the racers as they were running to the finish line and also congratulating them once they completed the race. Our Kiwanians always do whatever they can to help us out and support us in our events so we always love doing the same thing for them too! -Priscilla Barboza, The Palmdale Aerospace Academy
June OTC/DCM “The June DCM was a great eye opening experience for me since it was my first district council meeting since joining key club. I was so happy to be a part of the key club community outside of my school as we painted socks for sick children in our local hospitals. Also, the Officer Training was very beneficial in learning how to best execute my role as secretary.” - Felicia Cruz, Paraclete High School
Today was a great learning experience for me as well as a great time to get to know one another. I can’t wait to put to use all the new skills I learned! -Brian Paek, Highland High School
“Everyone at the June DCM/OTC was socializing with one another even though we came from different schools and many had never spoken to one another before that. I enjoyed the ice breaker that our LTG chose for the day because before we played it, it was really quiet and awkward but afterwards everyone seemed to be more comfortable with one another and that’s when everyone really began socializing.” -Aroni Garcia, The Palmdale Aerospace Academy

Member of the Month: Division 38 West’s member of the month is Jorge Alonso! Jorge is a very active key club member not only within TPAA but also the division, and is a former key club President. Jorge participated in the DCM/OTC as a member and he was the only member from TPAA to do so, which is why he stood out to me this month. Jorge also participated in all service projects during the month of May and June. He is just a fantastic example of what a key club member should look like!
Officer of the Month: Division 38 West’s officer of the month is Alexandra Jonnasen! This month she not only volunteered to present at the OTC and was responsive to all emails but she also staying on top of her tasks. Alexandra did an absolutely amazing job presenting and Key Club wouldn’t be able to exist if it wasn’t for people like her who take time out of their day to educate others about our wonderful organization!
