Primary Dispersions Ltd The world’s most advanced nanomaterial dispersion technology

One of the most significant problems holding back the successful application of nanomaterials is difficulty in achieving optimal dispersion. Whilst nanomaterials synthesis has developed to the extent that there are now often several routes to manufacture, by and large dispersion technology has remained the province of high shear stator rotor mixers and media mills. Typically both achieve deaggregation and some degree of de-agglomeration, but insufficient to deliver the significant economic benefits offered by well dispersed nanopaticles.

At last a major breakthrough in dispersion technology is available. Primary Dispersion Limited now offers a step change in nanomaterial dispersion via application of Maelstrom APT’s Concor® technology yielding particle sizes down to 5nm. Operating at semi-technical scale, PDL offers the ability to initially prove concept and then to scale up and ultimately to toll manufacture. APPLICABLE SYSTEMS The Concor® technology permits: n dispersion of high value nanoparticles, for example ZnO, TiO2, SiO2, Al2O3, FeXOy, metals e.g. Ag, Au, Cu, Phosphors, Nanopigments (both organic and inorganic), Nanoclays and Carbon NanoTubes n dispersion of nanoparticles into polymers, for example into Polyolefins, Polyesters, Polyamides and Acrylics n dispersion and controlled growth of primary particles in the nano regime SCALE OF ACTIVITY The current scale of activity is demonstration plant: n Minimum batch volume = 50 millilitres n Maximum batch volume = 10 litres But the process is readily scale-able to permit manufacture at multi-1000 litre per day scale.

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS The range of potential applications is truly tremendous, ranging through: n Functional coatings n Inks n Functional plastic packaging and films n Bulk plastics and nanocomposites n Textiles n Decorative ceramics If you would like to optimise your nanomaterial dispersions, please contact: Dr Steve Devine, Technical Director T: +44 1642 442 464 M: +44 7917 550 681 E: steve.devine@primarydispersions.com Primary Dispersions Limited at The Centre for Process Innovation Wilton Centre Wilton Redcar TS10 4RF NanoPerspective™ 19
