The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) is a key part of the UK Government’s first elite technology innovation centre, in the area of high value manufacturing. It offers market and technology expertise along with cutting-edge development assets to help its public and private sector clients build and prototype the next generation of products, processes and services quickly and efficiently, and with minimal risk. CPI has designed and established open access technology centres that are equipped with development laboratories, prototyping facilities and pilot plants that enable clients to prove and scale up processes from the laboratory stage through to commercial reality. In addition to the commercially experienced scientists and engineers on site to offer expertise and guidance, CPI also offers a multi-disciplined team who work together on project management, investment and market opportunities to ensure each business fulfills its potential.

INDUSTRIAL BIOTECHNOLOGY The National Industrial Biotechnology Facility (NIBF) combines unique open access testing and scale-up facilities with practical experience and applied knowledge of science and engineering. The facility can develop biotechnological processes from 1- to 10,000-litre capacity. The extensive combination of equipment at NIBF is supported by our team’s knowledge of process development and scale-up which means we can take a manufacturing concept from the laboratory bench to large scale commercial production – all on one site, with one team, at speed. By exploring and then optimising processes, we are able to calculate the most cost effective combination of materials, process steps and sequences, and the equipment needed to manufacture profitably. Consequently, clients minimize all risk of investing in the wrong capital equipment, using inefficient processes or facing unexpected costs. This provides an effective route to providing proof of concept by reducing the risk of investment, and negates the need for a specific, costly, inhouse facility. At CPI we work in the real world: our expertise is geared towards manufacturing in a commercial context to meet high profitability and quality benchmarks. PRINTABLE ELECTRONICS The Printable Electronics Technology Centre (PETEC) is a design, development and prototyping facility for the printable electronics industry. Our mission is to work with clients to bring new electronics products and processes to market quickly and efficiently by offering facilities and expertise that help clients reduce R&D risk and capital investment while speeding up time to market. For organisations looking to prove and prototype their products and processes at development up to pre-production scale, PETEC provides access to expert technical staff and state of the art printable electronics equipment and materials. The option of commercial support from industry experts to assist with applications development and commercialization is also available. Utilising PETEC’s advanced deposition, patterning and printing equipment leads to faster, more efficient product and process development and enables clients to deliver Printable Electronics projects efficiently, while reducing the risk associated with entering new markets. PETEC can accelerate new product development by providing access to conducting, semiconductor, resistive materials and inks of proven technical performance.
