MESSAGE FROM THE GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE

MESSAGE FROM THE GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE As Leicestershire’s leading business representative organisation, the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce strives to ensure that the views of our members are both heard and understood by local and national government. Our overriding priority is to ensure that the Leicestershire business community is treated fairly and can be allowed to prosper in a business friendly environment. At a national level, through the British Chambers of Commerce, we continue to lobby the Government on a whole series of issues that impact on our local business community. Clearly in the next four to five years Leicester and Leicestershire will go through some fairly dramatic economic changes. However, I am confident that during this period we will see our local business community expand and prosper. As the local Chamber of Commerce, we will be supporting and representing the business community during this period of change. At a time of unprecedented economic uncertainty, the Chamber has been actively working with local authority colleagues to establish a Local Enterprise Partnership for Leicester and Leicestershire. This new partnership body will pick up the mantle from the old Regional Development Agencies to lead economic development in our area. Through this new local partnership we will aim to ensure that both new and existing businesses receive the support they need to survive and prosper. Clearly as we start to emerge from this economic recession we must redouble our efforts to ensure that businesses in Leicester and Leicestershire are fully equipped to meet both the challenges and the opportunities the future holds. As a Chamber, we will be putting forward the views of our members to ensure that we develop a sustainable local economy that will allow businesses, of all shapes and sizes, to flourish. As part of our representational role, the relationship with local government is extremely important. In Leicester and Leicestershire, we enjoy an excellent working relationship with our city, county and district councils. This positive relationship has allowed us to put forward the views of our members in a constructive and positive way, and has resulted in a number of key partnerships where we have successfully worked with local authority colleagues on a whole raft of different initiatives.
