Area. Nearby is the Stearns Ranger District Office for the Daniel Boone National Forest. That visitor center has information on camping areas, horse camping and trails and foot trails. In Pulaski County there is also a Corps of Engineer’s Visitor Center location on Boat Dock Road off U.S. 27. That visitor center has interesting displays about the development of the lake and dam and has stuffed animals of the region along with interactive projects for young ones. A handicapped friendly trail outside the visitor center interprets tree species and brings you to an overlook of a tributary of the lake. An outstanding visitor center is the one adjacent to the Fish Hatchery at Wolf Creek Dam. That visitor center has an interpretive inside walk among many species of local animals (real and stuffed), karst displays of local caves with bats, and large fish tanks showing fish from the rivers and the lake. Other displays highlight bears gathering honey, small creatures such as frogs, turtles and insects, along with a picture display of the development of Wolf Creek Dam. A stuffed black bear greets you at the entrance along with a live skunk in a cage. Runners at the hatchery treat you to seeing the development of trout for release in Kentucky rivers, with some spectacularly large species kept in special areas. Not to be overlooked as a visitor center is the one associated with the Battle of Mill Springs near the entrance to the Mill Springs National Cemetery off Ky 80 in Nancy, Kentucky.

The visitor center outlines a route of stops to see the progression of the battle and it’s aftermath, even across the lake to the Mill Springs Mill and battlefield historic houses, the Brown-Lanier House and the Metcalfe House, both of which can be toured. The visitor center has a museum including the firearms used by Civil War soldiers. 
