Know thy boundaries ! Outbound Training at Paradise of North East - Sikkim

A 3-day outbound training was organized for the DB Tech staff stationed at East and North-East region in Gangtok on September 26-28, 2013. The entire staff from the states of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Assam, Tripura and Manipur travelled down to Gangtok to enjoy some adventurous activities in outbound training. Taking out some leisure time from their busy work schedule, a group of 70 staff members from centres, states and national office participated in the outbound training. Participants gathered at New Jalpaiguri railway station in West Bengal to start a road journey to the base camp in Gangtok. The never ending Tapti River all along the way made the road journey almost uncounted and mesmerized with the sound of water flowing down the beautiful hills covered with dense forest. The serene beauty of the state was thoroughly enjoyed. On the first day, the participants were taken to Changu for yak riding activity. Changu is located at a height of 13,000 feet from the sea level and very close to China boarder. While returning from Changu, all the participants enjoyed yak riding, which was equally full of fun and adventure. relieving and relaxing exercises. Next day, the group was lead to experience the adventurous paragliding. It is an activity that gave tremendous and unforgettable experience to all the participants. Quest Alliance's Operational Visit to DB Tech (Perambur)

To get the first hand information about the project, Mr. Kottresh from Quest Alliance visited DB Tech (Perambur) on September 4, 2013. The purpose of his visit was to see the regular activities and the sessions performed at the centre. Mr Kottresh spent the entire day with the trainees in the classroom which was conducted by Mrs. Sindhu (Trainer, DB Tech, Perambur). The students were first introduced to Mr. Kottresh and then Mrs. Sindhu explained to the trainees about the meaning, nature and types of

attitude. According to her the factors that determine attitude are e d u c a t i o n , environment and experience. “The education not only teaches us how to make a living but also how to live. Our behavior alters according to our experiences. In a p o s i t i v e environment, a m a r g i n a l performer's output goes up where as in a negative environment, a good performer's output goes down,” she said. Trainees were explained how the attitude affects one’s performance. Mr. Kottresh then conducted few situation based activities in English, some ice breakers and role plays. After the class, he even spent some time with facilitators and suggested some methods to improve online module tests and teaching. The session was really informative and enthusiastic.

Inaugural Ceremony of 3rd Batch of Corporate Project at DB Tech (Hatia) To welcome the students of 3rd Batch under BASE programme, the inaugural ceremony was held at DB Tech (Hatia) on September 9, 2013. Mr. Sanjeev Vijay Vargia (Deputy Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Ranchi) was invited as the Chief Guest for the day. Other dignitaries who took part in the function were Fr. Vincent (Center Head, DB Tech, Hatia), Sr. Prema and Sr. Monika from SRA congregation, Sr. Brigit from Ursuline Convent and some guests from Axis Bank as well. BASE alumni, trainees and their parents were also present at the inaugural function.

The gathering started with a welcome speech by Fr. Vincent. He welcomed all the guests and highlighted the mission of DB Tech concerning the skill training program which h a s b e e n deliberately designed and b e i n g implemented for the poor and the marginalized youth. He also emphasized on the various courses offered by DB Tech. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sanjeev requested the community members to extend their support to this ambitious program, which will lead the underprivileged youth towards their social and economic empowerment. He urged the trainees to make use of this golden opportunity which will help them to find a sustainable way of livelihood. He said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.”

Aabid Ahmad Kumar, a young Kashmiri from Khanpora (Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir) is one of the trainees being trained at DB Tech (Baramulla). This centre is one of the centres under Himayat project that provides placement linked skill training program to youth of Jammu & Kashmir. The Himayat project envisions to support the youth of J&K by providing them vocational training linked to placement in various sectors like ITES, Customer Service, Sales and Marketing, Hospitality, etc. Aabid has successfully completed his training in the Retail Domain. Initially, while enrolling to the short term course he was bit hesitant to choose the domain and even faced some difficulties during the training program. But gradually realizing the usefulness of the training, he started appreciating his decision to take up this course. He used to perform activities with lot of interest and enthusiasm. The attitude of Aabid throughout the training programme was really positive. His parents were also convinced about Aabid taking training in the Retail domain. Soon after three months of training, he got the chance for placement at Khyber Resorts located in Kashmir (J&K) as Front Office Executive at a monthly remuneration of Rs. 6000. He was exceedingly happy to get placed in such a grand resort and thanked the all the staff members of DB Tech with a sense of satisfaction. While speaking about his son, Aabid’s Father, Mr. Ab Rashid Kumar said, “I am extremely happy to listen to the news of the placement of my son in such a popular resort. I feel proud to be his father.” After having achieved his dreams, Aabid expressed, “I belong to a very poor family, and I had never thought that I would be here someday. This three months training has changed my entire life and has given me new wings to fly. A heartfelt thank to all the contributors who have made my life meaningful.”

Faculty Development Programme in Kolkata Province

The PRT of Kolkata in association with Learning & Development team of DB Tech organized a faculty development training programme for the trainers of Kolkata province on October 13-14, 2013. The training was facilitated by Dr. Meena Jain, Ms. Neeta and Mr. Prabhu from Labournet of Bangalore. This 2-day training programme highlights different styles of learning (VATK method), training techniques, managing classroom, importance of body language, etc. in an interactive way. Different types of learning

process were shared with interactive session and demo classes. This was the Level 1 training programme from Labournet for which certifications will be provided in association with National Skill Development Corporation. The participants shared their views stating that the topics taught at the training session are very much needed in our everyday life. They shared that they got a chance to learn different techniques of training by the means of life skill games, which made the topics more attentive.

Guest Lecture on Marketing Management at DB Tech (Chitradurga)

A guest lecture on Marketing Management was organised for the students undertaking training in Retail Marketing domain at DB Tech (Chitradurga) on September 09, 2013. Mr. Chikkanna (Director, Vestige Group of Companies), who has also worked as a Marketing Executive was invited as the resource person for delivering an important lecture on marketing and related topics.
