Waikato Stud Matamata Swifts v Katikati WaiBOP Premiership - 2.45pm

Richardson Racing Stables Swifts Reserves v Tokoroa WaiBOP Championship - 12.30pm Matamata Domain | Saturday June 13, 2015

A Few Kind Words Today’s an important day for Matamata Swifts AFC. (And no, it’s not because the Swifts reserves get to play their first home game in ten weeks.) This afternoon we have the opportunity to come together as a club and as a footballing community to show our support for, and offer assistance 2015 to, a club member in need. Management You’ll see details about today’s Jamie Cox Fundraiser on Committee the next page. I urge you to help where you can. I’ve known Jamie for a long, long time. My first memory of him is when Patron he was running around as a kid at 5-a-side scoring goals Jack Poole for the Grogsters and wishing he was five years older so we could get him doing the same thing for the Swifts. Now President he’s all grown up, with a family and in need of our help. I’ll Julie Clothier be here doing what I can. Hopefully you can too. Vice-President We welcome both Katikati and Tokoroa to the Domain Malcolm Raynel today. Like our two sides, they’ll both be hunting points to Treasurer help turn solid starts to the season into something a bit Dave Mann more productive. Secretary Our reserves’ derby against Tokoroa should be a good Debbie Sankey watch, with the visitors among the highest scoring teams in the league. Our young reserve side has acquited Club Captain themselves well so far this season and today will be Ronan Costello another test of their progress. Paul and Malcolm have Committee them playing nice football and they were unlucky to lose to Pete Challis the league leaders last time out. Ana Paterson Looking back to this time last season, the Swifts are Junior Convenor in a far better place now. While the loss in Rotorua last Cathy O’Callaghan time out was a bummer, it’s how teams respond from that Club Development Mgr sort of disappointment that shows what they’re made of. Dwayne Barlow Hopefully everyone’s fit, healthy and ready to go against a visiting side I expect will be highly motivated. It should be a fun afternoon. I’ve put in a request for Matamata Swifts AFC perfect weather so now it’s up to all four teams to play their 1930-2015 part. Turning 85 this year! Jamie Cox Fundraiser - June 13, 2015 To make the most of today’s double header, the club is hosting a fundraiser to support a club member in his battle against Breast Cancer. Cross Bar Hoop Challenge: After the WaiBOP Premiership game, there will also be a Baigent Motors Cross Bar Hoop Challenge, which entails a hoop hanging from the centre of the cross bar and the ball placed on the 18 yard box. $5.00 to enter the competition. From the 18 yard box you must try to kick the ball into the hoop. If you miss you’re out, if you get it in, you’re into the next round. Winner takes all for the NZ Football Shirt kindly donated by Baigent Motors. Karma Keg: There will also be a Karma Keg. Cups will be provided, $5 a beer. All proceeds from the Karma Keg, Raffles and Cross Bar Hoop Challenge will go towards helping Jamie fight his battle against Breast Cancer. This is a great opportunity for all club members and friends to get down to the Domain, enjoy two entertaining football matches, while supporting one of our own. Below Jamie takes a breather against Tokoroa during a pre-season match at the start of 2014. Nat Gaskell, the mastermind behind today’s fundraiser, and Chris Bedford offer support, much like the rest of us will today.
