Dayton 74 Xavier 78 Game #17 · 1/16/10 · Cincinnati, OH Chris Johnson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the University of Dayton Flyers fell to the Xavier Musketeers 78-74. Chris Wright added 10 points and nine boards as UD dropped to 13-4 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic 10. Marcus Johnson led Dayton with 17 and had three steals, while Rob Lowery added 13 points, eight rebonds and six assists as the Flyers lost for only the second time in their previous 13 contests. In the 150th meeting between the two programs, it was a back-andforth, physical struggle for the entire contest. The Flyers dominated on the glass holding a 51-31 rebounding edge and hauling in 25 offensive rebounds. Ten of Chris Johnson’s 16 boards came on the offensive end. With UD down 74-68, Wright connected on an old-fashioned threepoint play getting a jumper and free throw to pull UD back within three. However, Xavier’s Jordan Crawford hit his second field goal in the last three minutes with the shot clock expiring to put the Musketeers ahead for good. Xavier’s Dante’ Jackson earned the McCafferty-Blackburn MVP award after scoring 19 points and hitting 5-of-8 three pointers. Xavier, who has won 26 consecutive Atlantic 10 home games, went 8-of-16 on three-point attempts in the first 32 minutes of play. The Musketeers finished the contest shooting 24-of-30 at the free throw line and sank 10-of-19 shots from three point range. Xavier had a 69-62 lead with 3:39 left in regulation. Wright would connect on two free throws to cut the XU lead to five. On the ensuing possession, Jordan Crawford hit a long-range three with time expiring on the shot clock giving Xavier a 72-64 lead. Both team’s leading scorers, UD’s Wright and XU’s Jordan Crawford, both picked up three fouls in the first 20 minutes of play. Dayton held a 39-36 lead at the half with Chris Johnson tallying eight points and nine rebounds and Marcus Johnson scoring eight points and picking up three steals. UD’s defense looked sharp early on not allowing a Xavier field goal until the 17:03 mark. But Xavier eventually found its groove and had a 26-22 lead with eight minutes left in the first half. The Flyers kept pace thanks to a cornucopia of baskets from players like Josh Benson, Marcus Johnson, Kurt Huelsman and Lowery.

George Washington 51 Dayton 66 Game #18 · 1/20/10 · UD Arena Chris Wright had 14 points and 12 rebounds and sparked an early second-half surge to lead Dayton to a 66-51 victory over George Washington. Dayton (14-4, 3-1 Atlantic 10 Conference) opened the second half with a 16-4 run to lead 54-30 with 14:35 left. Wright scored the Flyers’ first eight points of the half. Wright didn’t score a field goal until the 2:32 mark of the first half, but it was a memorable one. He threw down a one-handed slam in traffic on a feed from Marcus Johnson that gave him sole possession of UD’s career dunk record. His two dunks in the game gave him 104 in just 68 games in a Dayton Uniform. Dayton led 38-26 at halftime, and its stingy man-to-man defense held George Washington (11-6, 1-3) to its lowest point total of the season. The two teams were the second and third-best rebounding teams in the Atlantic 10 this season. The Flyers were plus 5.0 and GW was plus 4.7 in rebounding margin, but UD out-rebounded the Colonials 43-30. Dayton, which extended its school-record home winning streak to 30 games, also got 13 points from Marcus Johnson, 11 from Mickey Perry and 10 from Chris Johnson. The 30-game homecourt win streak is tied for the third-best in Division I. Dayton 59 Saint Joseph’s 60 Game #19 · 1/23/10 · Philadelphia, PA A career-high 28 points from Chris Wright wasn’t enough as the University of Dayton Flyers had their comeback come up just short in a 60-59 loss to the Saint Joseph’s Hawks. Wright shot 12-of-20 from the floor and hit four free throws as UD drops to 14-5 overall and 3-2 in the Atlantic 10. Trailing by one with 10 seconds remaining in regulation, Rob Lowery‘s game-winning lay-up was blocked to spoil the Flyer comeback bid. UD trailed by five with 44 seconds remaining, but made enough plays to claw their way back to a one-possession game. Wright hit a lay-up after a Hawk turnover to cut the deficit to 60-59 with 17 seconds to play. With 13 seconds left in regulation, the Hawks missed a free throw and lost possession. That allowed the Flyers to get one last chance to win, but could not convert at the other end. Dayton shot 3-of-22 from three-point range and committed 17 turnovers. At one point in the second half the Flyers went 1-for-12 from the floor. The Flyers finished the game 22-for-61, a 36 percent clip from the field. Wright scored 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor in the first half as the Flyers trailed 34-30. The Hawks led by as many as eight in the first half after the Flyers missed their first 11 shots from beyond the arc and committed 10 turnovers. London Warren finished the game with six points, a season-high nine rebounds and four assists. Lowery added six points and a career-best five steals, while Kurt Huelsman started in his 119th consecutive game, tying the program record held by Mark Ashman.
