The Big Green and Friars meet at Schneider Arena at 2 p.m. IT’S BEEN A WHILE Dartmouth returns to the ice after more than three weeks off for winter break. The Green last played on Dec. 9 in the second contest of a two-game weekend in Maine against the Black Bears, sweeping the home team with a 4-2 win in the finale. LAST TIME OUT After a three-game winless stretch (0-21), the team’s offense returned in a big way in Orono, scoring 10 times in the two games. Camille Dumais led the way with seven points (4g/3a), including a hat trick in the first game and was rewarded as the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week for her play against Maine.

100-POINT CLUB Senior forward and team co-captain Reagan Fischer became the 35th player in program history to reach the 100-point mark when she picked up an assist on Jenna Hobeika’s third-period goal on Sunday. It was her seventh helper of the year to give her a team-leading 15 points in 12 games played. OFFENSIVE OUTBURST Dartmouth’s six-goal effort in the Dec. 8 game at Maine was a new season high for team tallies in a game. The 14 total points registered that night tied a season high previously set at Yale on Nov. 2. The last time the Big Green scored six or more goals came back on Feb. 17, 2012 in a 10-5 win over Yale at Thompson Arena. OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM In that 6-1 win against the Black Bears, Dartmouth registered 61 shots on goal. Maine, on the other hand, finished the night with just 15 on target, a new low for a Big Green opponent this season. The

last time Dartmouth had more than 50 shots on goal in a single game came on Jan. 28, 2012, also against the Elis in a 5-0 victory. SCOUTING THE FRIARS Providence enters the game with an 8-8-4 overall record and a 5-4-2 mark in Hockey East play. The Friars have lost their last three and have just one win in their last eight games (1-4-3). The last game before the break saw No. 5 Harvard hand Providence an 8-1 defeat in Cambridge. Leading the charge offensively is senior Nicole Anderson and her 20 points on a team-leading 12 goals. Her eight assists rank tied for second on the team, trailing only sophomore Brooke Simpson’s nine. Freshman Sarah Bryant has backstopped the Friars in 15 games so far this year, sporting a 6-5-3 mark and a 2.98 goals-against average with one shutout. LAST TIME THESE TWO MET These two programs met in a nonconference game a season ago played at Fenway Park in Boston. The historic ballpark was the backdrop for a Jan. 10 match-up that saw Dumais score the game-winning goal with just 1:14 left on the clock for the 3-2 victory. ALL-TIME SERIES The meeting last season at Fenway was the 50th in the all-time series between these two proud programs with the Friars holding a 28-21-1 advantage. However, since head coach Mark Hudak took over in 2003-04, Dartmouth is 9-0 against

Providence, including two wins in his first season behind the Big Green bench. The team from the Upper Valley has won 15 of 17 against Providence dating back to the 1999-2000 season. A FRIAR CONNECTION Associate Head Coach Holley Tyng is in her eighth season alongside Hudak on the Dartmouth bench, but is very familiar with the black and white of Providence. A four-year player with the Friars, Tyng is a 2001 graduate of the college with a degree in math and a minor in business. She was a captain as a senior and a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic selection, while suiting up in 133 career games. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER Senior Sasha Nanji scored the eventual game-winner with just 3:07 remaining in the Sunday match-up in Orono to break a 2-2 tie with the Black Bears. It was her second goal of the season and couldn’t have come at a better time, helping the team to its second weekend road sweep (Nov. 2-3/Yale and Brown) of 2012-13. NEW YEAR’S EVE The 2 p.m. game on Dec. 31 marks the first time since 2006 that the Big Green played a contest on New Year’s Eve. That night in Hanover, Dartmouth improved to 12-3-1, with a 2-1 win over Boston College. All three goals came in the first 13 minutes of play with future Olympian Gillian Apps scoring the eventual game-winning tally just 12:56 into the game. Prior to that night, Dartmouth

ON THE ROAD…AGAIN Monday’s matinee is the fifth straight road contest for the Big Green. In the midst of an eight-game road swing, Dartmouth has not played a home contest at Thompson Arena since Saturday, Nov. 24. The Green and White will head to RPI and Union on Friday (Jan. 4) and Saturday (Jan. 5) before a non-conference tilt at Vermont on Jan. 9 wraps up the six-and-a-half week road trip. A Jan. 11 contest with Quinnipiac is the first home game of the new year for the Green. EXTRA TIME IS THE NORM Already this season, Dartmouth has gone to overtime with an opponent in five games, including four times in the last five match-ups. Last season, the team played eight OT contests in 30 total

games, but just three times before Jan. 1. STACEY’S STRONG START Just 12 games into her freshman season, Laura Stacey has been making an impact on the scoresheet. Only four times this year has the first-year forward been held scoreless. At the winter break, Stacey is third on the team in scoring with 11 points on three goals and eight helpers. Her third goal of the season came in the 6-1 win at Maine 2:08 into the second period. GOOD PK Dartmouth’s penalty killers were dominant against a potent Northeastern team on Dec. 5, finishing the night 5-for-5 while down a player. The Huskies had three power plays in the third, looking to get the winner in regulation, but the Big Green PK was a perfect 3-for-3 in the stanza. Against Maine, Dartmouth’s PK was 3-for-3 the first day and 5-for-6 on Sunday afternoon. FINAL PERIOD PRESSURE This season, Dartmouth’s nine goals against in the third period ranks as the third best in ECAC Hockey. Harvard has allowed just one in the third period all season, while Brown has surrendered just six so far. POWERLESS Twice in the last four games Dartmouth has gone 0-for-10 on the power play. Against Harvard on Nov. 30 and again on Dec. 9 at Maine, the Big Green had 10 chances with the extra attacker and each time failed to score at least once.

UPCOMING ACTION Sunday, Dec. 31 Dartmouth at Providence, 2:00 PM

DECEMBER 31, 2012 • at PROVIDENCE HEAD COACH|MARK HUDAK Mark Hudak enters his 10th year behind the bench for the Big Green and 15th season with the program. Last year, he guided the team to an 18-10-2 record with a 14-6-2 ECAC Hockey mark. The 2011-12 squad advanced to the ECAC Tournament for the eighth time with Hudak at the helm, falling to St. Lawrence in the First Round. During his tenure as the head coach, Hudak has coached two All-Americans, an Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year, an ECAC Hockey Player and Rookie of the Year, along with two first team All-ECAC Hockey selections, seven first team All-Ivy performers and an ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Year. He also has tutored four U.S. and Canadian National Team members who have combined for seven appearances at the last three Winter Olympic Games. During the 2010-11 season, Hudak helped the Big Green bounce back from a down 2009-10 season, leading Dartmouth to a 22-12-0 record with appearances in the ECAC Tournament Championship and the NCAA Tournament. The team ended the year ranked eighth in the nation. During the season, Hudak earned his 150th career victory and his 100th ECAC Hockey victory. Also that season, Hudak served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team at the 2010 Four Nations Cup and at the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation World Women’s Championship at Hallenstadion. He was ultimately named the 2010-11 New England Hockey Writers Association Coach of the Year. In 2009, Hudak led Dartmouth to its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth of his coaching career. The Big Green also won their fourth ECAC Hockey Tournament and second under Hudak. During the 2008-09 season, he passed former head coach Judy Oberting for second all-time in career wins. Now, with 180 victories to his credit, Hudak is just 14 wins away from tying George Crowe as the all-time winningest coach in program history. During the 2007-08 season, the Big Green made the ECAC Hockey semifinals for the fourth time under Hudak. He achieved two milestones that season, posting his 100th career victory with a 6-4 win over Mercyhurst on Dec. 16 and leading Dartmouth to the program’s 500th win on Nov. 17 with a 4-1 win against Yale. In 2006-07, Hudak led the Big Green to a record-tying 27 victories for the second time during his tenure as head coach. It was his third 20-plus win season since taking over the program in 2003. Hudak helped his team to its first ECACHL regular season championship since 2002 with a 16-1-1 regular season mark in conference play. The Big Green won the Ivy

CAREER AT A GLANCE

League, ECACHL regular season and ECACHL Tournament in the same season for the first time since 200001.

Career Record: 184-93-23 2 Ivy League Titles, 2 ECAC Tournament Titles, 1 ECAC Regular Season Title, 6 NCAA Tournament Bids

During Hudak’s second season as Dartmouth’s head coach in 2004-05, the Big Green posted a 27-8-0 mark, garnering second-place regular-season finishes in both the ECAC Hockey League and Ivy League. Dartmouth qualified for the ECACHL Championship and then knocked off Wisconsin in the NCAA quarterfinals to reach its fourth NCAA Frozen Four. The 27 wins tied a single-season program record, and allowed Hudak to reach the 50-win plateau faster than any other coach in program history.
