Fair Hours The fairgrounds will be open from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to Midnight on Friday and Saturday. The fairgrounds will be open again on Sunday to pick up exhibits from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. **Livestock animals, displays and exhibits may not be removed until 8 a.m. and must be done by 10 a.m. Admission will be charged starting at noon on Wednesday and all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A separate ticket is needed to see the Rodeo.

General Rules for Commercial Booths 1. All applications are subject to the approval of the Yakima Valley Fair & Rodeo (YVF&R) and are considered on a first-come, firstserved basis, and should be submitted as soon as possible due to limited commercial booth space. 2. In order to be considered for acceptance, all applications must be received by the YVF&R by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012. 3. Set up time begins at 9 a.m., Wednesday, August 8 of Fair week and needs to be completed by Thursday, August 9 at noon. 4. All booths need to be in order, manned and all vehicles must be off the grounds by noon on Thursday. 5. Booths may be stocked before 8 a.m. and after closing time on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the fair. 6. Your activities are limited to your assigned booth space area ONLY.

Only Superintendents will be allowed to park along North drive. Must have parking pass displayed in window. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed at owner’s expense. Paul Creighton A Real Ringling Bros. Clown! Creighton is one of the founders of the Grandview Fair and went on to manage other fairs. In 1962 he became in involved with the Seattle World’s Fair. He has gone on to work in management at eight World’s Fairs and a consultant at many international events. His book “Fairs are Fun” chronicles his 70 years in the fair and exhibition business.

1. A saw horse will be provide for each person to decorate. Please call the number below for a saw horse and/or more information. 2. The décor or theme will be up to each ones imagination. 3. Entries can be delivered to the Grandview Community Center on Wallace Way, in Grandview anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m between June 1 and June 30, 2012. 4. Judging will take place during the fair by Cowboy Buck and Elizabeth. Winners will be announced at their evening performance at the fair grounds on Thursday, August 9, 2012. 5. Meat, fish, poultry and vegetables must be pressure canned. 10. Dried foods should be in clear glass jars for exhibition with a label indicating product name, pretreatment (if none use, write “No pretreatment”), drying method used (sun, dehydrator, oven) and date preserved. 11. Products without a label, incorrect methods or incorrect jars will be disqualified. Attach label to smooth side of jar. See examples of labels below. Labels do not need to be fancy.

Only original work completed within the last two years and not previously shown at the Yakima Valley Fair is eligible. 2. Fine Arts entries may include drawings, paints and sculptures. 3. Fair History This year will be the 85th year of festivities at the Yakima Valley Fair & Rodeo (YVF&R) in Grandview. It will be the 23rd anniversary at the current location, Country Park on Wallace Way. The Yakima Valley Fair started in the downtown streets of Grandview as the “Harvest Festival.” During the early 1950s, the fair found its home on Second Street at what is now the Yakima Valley Community College campus, and soon grew to include the livestock exhibits. By the 1990s, the YVF&R began to outgrow itself in town and moved to the current fair location at Country Park on Wallace Way. In 2001, the Yakima Valley Fair added “& Rodeo” and changed its name. The first three years, it was successful as part of the Pro-West Rodeo circuit, winning “Rodeo of the Year” for 2 years. The transition was made to the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association) in 2003. In 2010, new Directors returned to the Pro-West Rodeo, involving more local participants. The YVF&R continues to grow and develop with each passing year. This year finds a dedicated YVF&R Board of 13 volunteer members who work diligently to improve the quality of the Fair & Rodeo. Ben A. Perham Memorial Trophy Awarded to highest total point winner in open class fruit display. This is a traveling trophy awarded to the winner each year. Helpful Hints & Rules: 1. Fruit is generally judged according to size, quality, color, uniformity and trueness to variety type. 2. Fruit will be judged according to maturity at fair time, need not be completely ripened. 3. The best size to select is not the largest nor the smallest, but one which most properly represents the variety in market demand. 4. Quality should be of the highest. Fruits should be free of any bruises, blemishes, broken skin and generally should retain their stems. 5. Color should be characteristic of the variety. It may be brightened with a soft cloth, except prunes, plums and grapes should never be polished. It is best to leave the natural bloom. No oil or wax should be used to polish fruit. 6. Size and shape should be as uniform as possible, and without any irregularities. 7. Exhibits may be entered in trays or plates, both of which will be supplied by the fair. A tray is the equivalent of one tier of fruit in a standard box of packed fruit. Plates shall hold five unless otherwise indicated.

Alfalfa Haymaster Contest Winner will be crowned Yakima Valley Fair Haymaster of the Year. Rules: 1. Exhibitors must bring 3 bales of hay to Fairgrounds on Tuesday. Entries will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 12 noon that day. 2. The alfalfa must have been produced on the exhibitors farm. 3. At time of entry, the hay will be core sampled and the sample will be sent to Agri-Check, Umatilla, OR for analysis. This will be done to determine crude protein, acid detergent fiber, ash and moisture. 4. After core test has been taken, the exhibitor can choose from his 3 bales, an 18”

center section from one bale, which will be displayed and further judged visually The remaining hay can then be taken home or can be donated to the fair. All donated hay will then be auctioned off at the 4-H and FFA livestock sale. All process will be used for youth projects on the grounds. 5. Hay may be from any cutting grown this year. Each weed must be identified with common name, locality where collected, environment found in date of collection and name of collector. Booklet of 10 weeds per class number (collected this year). Open Floriculture Superintendent: Bob Fay - 509.830.6074 Rules: 1. Entry cards at the door. Those wishing to pre-enter may obtain cards from the Grandview Herald. 2. All entries must be placed from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8. Judging begins at 1:00 p.m. 3. Entries may be picked up on Sunday, August 12 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. 4. Bottles are furnished for cut flower specimens 5. Exhibitors in Artistic Design Classes provide own containers. 6. Flowers should be hardened by putting in warm water as soon as cut. Let set several hours or overnight. Late afternoon or early morning is best time to cut. Seven-Up helps to perk flowers up. 7. Specimens must be grown by exhibitor, except dried. Exhibitors are encouraged (specimens or designs) to change their flowers to keep the show looking fresh. Any deteriorated specimens will be removed and destroyed. Deteriorated designs will be removed and held for pickup at release time. 8. No plastic, paper, or artificial plant material. 9. Accessories permitted in all designs. The fair management will not be responsible for the loss of containers or accessories. 10. Competition is open to the public, all ages. 11. If any entrant has over 15 entries, the latest they can enter is 1/2 hour before deadline. 12. FLORICULTURE IS JUDGED ON THE AMERICAN SYSTEM (which means there is only one first, second and third place winner in each class). 13. YOUTH ENTRIES WILL BE JUDGED DANISH (same scale of points but on own merit). 14. This year’s theme: Hay Bales and Cow Tales. 15. Novice Designer - won fewer than 10 blue ribbons. Judging will be Novice against Novice. 16. People’s Choice Ribbons will be awarded for Advanced and Novice Design Division and Youth Designs. The winner will be determined by popular vote. Public may cast vote when the show opens until 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Ribbons will be awarded Friday evening.

Project Add Sheet: Optional h. Additional information and 4-H pictures, others can be added to highlight your 4-H year. 5. FFA record book approved by the Agriculture Education Instructor will be acceptable. -Book should include a minimum of beginning weight and cost of animals, labor records, expenses and receipts (if any), prior to show time. Any exhibitor administering any drugs and/or medications to any livestock entry, without direct permission of division superintendents, will result in immediate expulsion and cancellation of any earned awards and/or premium monies. NO EXCEPTIONS 2. The owner of exhibit or exhibits release the Yakima Valley Fair & Rodeo from any liability from loss, damage or injury of themselves, livestock or other property while such exhibit is on the grounds of the Yakima Valley Fair and Rodeo. When you complete your entry cards you are making this pledge. 3. All exhibitors must complete a Record Book for livestock and dairy projects. Entry and Removal 4. Entries will close July 20 for mail-in entries and July 27 for online entries. All entries must be in to the Fair Board at P.O. Box 27, Grandview, WA 98930 on or before that date or postmark of that date from point of mailing. Late entry fee, $5.00 per exhibitor. 5. Due to limited space, late entries must be approved by Livestock Superintendent. 6. Entry forms must show whether an exhibitor is FFA or 4-H. No open class exhibitors will be permitted. 7. Livestock exhibitors will be responsible for their own lodging. 8. Due to the lack of open space there may be a limit of 7 head of breeding stock. Please check with Livestock Directors. 9. NO animal or article will be allowed to compete for more than one premium nor shall be entered in more than one class, except championship classes and group breeding classes in beef, swine, sheep, goats and dairy where listed. 10. Bill of Sale on all branded cattle must accompany brand slip and must be presented when animal is unloaded. 11. All entries must be on the grounds by 8 a.m. Wednesday, no exception. Swine must be in by 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. NO LATE ANIMALS WILL BE ACCEPTED 12. Stall spaces will be tagged and must be permanent for each club or chapter. Please do not remove tags to another stall in the barn. Removal of tags may lead to removal of animals from fairgrounds. 13. Each exhibitor must furnish the necessary feed and water buckets for his/her animals and shall be responsible for their care. 14. Straw or sawdust bedding will be furnished. 15. Breeding stock must not be removed until 9 a.m., Sunday. Breaking this regulation may result in forfeiture of premium money. Buyer may remove market animals until 9 a.m. Breeding stock and take home market animals may not leave until 9 a.m. Sunday and must be gone by 10 a.m. Sunday unless prior arrangments are made with a Livestock Director. Tear downs for individual barns will be determined by Livestock Superintendants and Directors but may not be done until all turn buyer animals have left the building Sunday morning. 16. Animals not properly fitted and trained for showing will be rejected at the discretion of show officials. 17. No exhibitor will be allowed to enter animals of the same enterprise in both 4-H and FFA Division. 18. Market stock must be in ownership and in possession of exhibitor at least 50 days prior to the fair. Steers must be owned by April 1, 2012. 19. Market stock sold at previous market stock sales will not be accepted for entry and violators of this rule will be barred from this show. Local 4-H leaders and FFA instructors may be asked to verify entries and contests will be judged separately with championships in each where designated. 20. For weight requirements, see Division. Steers will not be allowed to unload on grounds until state brand slips (one set for each animal) are turned over to beef superintendent, which includes Bill of Sale from previous owner to exhibitor and brand slip from exhibitor to Yakima Valley Fair & Rodeo. 21. Representatives from every club or chapter must be present for cleanup of pens on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. or after turned animals are removed and pens cleaned or all premium money will be withheld. 22. Entry fees are $10.00 per animal in Beef, Sheep, Swine, Dairy, Goats and Llamas. $4.00 for Rabbits and Poultry. Pocket Pets are $4.00 each or $8.00 for cages of 2-4. MONEY DUE WITH ENTRY FORM. 23. The Herdsmanship Judge will judge for Herdsmanship at random. 24. Once an animal has been sold and turned, the animal cannot be bought out of turn pens. 25. All livestock will be weighed on the same scale. The weight is final and animals will not be re-weighed. - Swine must be weighed by 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. - Other livestock will be weighed Wednesday starting at 9:00 a.m. NO EXCEPTIONS! Steers first, immediately followed by sheep, who will be immediately followed by goats. Sheep are to wait until all the steers are weighed and have left the scale area before they approach the scale area. 26. Refer to Division of your animal for addition information and regulations. 27. By signing entry form you are agreeing to: a. I believe that my participation in the 4-H and FFA Program should demonstrate my own ability, knowledge, and skill in feeding and preparing my livestock project for show. I will do my own work and accept only advice and support from others. b. I will not use abusive or questionable techniques in the feeding, fitting and showing of my animals. I will not use fraudulent, illegal or deceptive practices when fitting them for show. I also will not allow my parent, my supervisor, or any other person to employ such practice to my animal. c. I will read and understand the rules of the Yakima Valley Fair & Rodeo in which I am a participant. I will not allow my parents and the supervisor of my project animal to break the rules or make exception on my behalf. I wish to be an example of how to accept what life has to offer – good and bad – and how to live with the outcome of exhibiting my livestock project. d. I accept responsibility for: -The proper care and treatment of my animals. -The production of wholesome food. -The development of sound ethical behavior in myself and others. 29. Each 4-H exhibitor must fit and show one representative animal of each species that they have entered in the fair 29.-30. Reserve numbers. All animals for take home must be gone by 8 a.m. on Sunday. General 31. The Danish system of judging or group method of awards will be used throughout all Divisions. 32. In the Livestock Division, Champions, Grand Champions and Reserve Grand Champions will be selected where designated from among the blue ribbon entries. 33. Entries for Market Classes will be open to any boy or girl meeting 4-H club or FFA requirements and living in Yakima County, those parts of Benton County down to and including the Kiona-Benton City School District, and eastern Klickitat County. 34. Steers must be dehorned or natural polled to be eligible for show and sale. 35. Exhibitors must show his/her own animal during contest and during sale.

Livestock 36. No exhibit shall be awarded to a premium championship ribbon unless of exceptional quality regardless of competition. 37. Profanity will not be allowed in livestock area. 38. All weights on the scale are final and subject to pencil shrink of the three percent on beef and lambs. Animals will be weighed once. 39. Parent, 4-H leaders, FFA advisors and other non-exhibitors are not to help exhibitors prepare or ready animals for contest, nor clean pens. 40. Any animals on the fairgrounds may be used in 4-H and FFA judging contest. 41. All 4-H and FFA members will be required to participate in Fitting and Showing in at least one division for each species shown. Acceptable attire must be worn into the ring while showing your animals; clean shirt, pants and FFA jacks for FFA members. Livestock exhibitors must participate in order to receive premium money earned during the fair. 42. No animal deemed unworthy shall be awarded a premium. 43. Premium checks will be mailed to those meeting herdsmanship requirements. 44. All checks issued against the Yakima Valley Fair & Rodeo must be cashed in 90 days. 45. Yakima Valley Fair & Rodeo Board reserves the right to review any, and all unforeseen disputes not covered by these rules and regulations. Their decision shall be final and upheld. 46. FFA exhibitors to show before 4-H in odd years, and 4-H to show first in even years. This rule applicable in all divisions. 47. Entry Sheet - Complete as directed. 48. Animals must meet breed standards to be considered for a class. Exhibitor must show proof of bloodline upon request. 49. SCALE WEIGHT IS FINAL. NO Reweighing. 50.-57. Reserved Numbers.

Health 58. The YVF&R shall have officers on the grounds and will use every reasonable precaution in its power for the preservation and protection of persons, articles on exhibition, livestock and property but will not be responsible for less or damage by theft, fire or otherwise. 59. All cattle shall have neck chains or extra tie ropes at all times. 60. The YVF&R shall have an officer in the Livestock Building each night. Failure of an exhibitor to comply with the rules of conduct shall result in forfeit of all premium money and/or removal of exhibitor and their stock from the show grounds. 61. Animals that cannot be controlled and shown without the use of tranquilizers or excessive force shall not be allowed on the grounds or may be removed. 62. Washington livestock requires no vaccination or test for entry. Dairy must have bangs vaccination to be entered. 63. Fair Veterinarians and Superintendents will inspect all classes of livestock and poultry (including pet animals, fur bearing animals, pigeons, ducks, geese and turkeys) before they are exhibited, to determine that the livestock and poultry are free from infectious or contagious disease and ectoparasites. 64. Fair Veterinarians and Superintendents must reject an animal with infectious or contagious disease or ectoparasites. (Exhibitors shall be aware that ringworm, warts, pinkeye, strangles, contagious thyma, scabies, lice, mites, ticks and fleas fall into these categories). 65. Individual health certificates are not required for entry. 66. No animal from any quarantined premise will be permitted to enter fair. 67 A sitting committee will be present on the grounds to screen desirable exhibits. In case of question of ownership, this committee will have the right to demand satisfactory evidence of ownership. An owner of a rejected exhibit must remove said exhibit from the grounds within a reasonable time set by the sitting committee.

Thursday at 12:00 p.m. FFA Superintendent: Denine Trump Plaques will be provided for FFA Livestock and Dairy High Individuals and 4-H Livestock and Dairy High Individuals for Junior, Intermediate and Senior contestants. Rules: Eight classes of Livestock: 2 Sheep, 2 Market Wethers, 2 Swine and 2 Beef. 1. Each contestant shall place according to his judgment, classes of hogs, sheep and beef, cattle and meat goats, four animals will constitute a class. 2. While the contest is in progress, there shall be no conferring between contestants and anyone else. Any violation of this rule shall be sufficient to bar them from the contestant. 3. Each participant shall report to the grandstand at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday of the Fair. The Superintendent will give the instructions to be followed in the contest. 4. Any animal on the fair grounds may be used for the Livestock Judging Contest. Scoring will be on FFA and 4-H standards. 4-H will have three divisions: - Junior (Grades 3, 4 and 5) - Intermediate (Grades 6, 7 and 8) - Senior (Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, not past their 19th birthday as of January 1, following school graduation). 5. There will be individual awards in three divisions.

It is also a must to be present for dismantling and cleanup of pens from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sunday, or all premium monies will be withheld. 2. Herdsmanship contest is throughout the Fair. Banners to 1st place in FFA Competition will be on a club or chapter basis. The purpose of the contest is to encourage exhibitors to care for livestock, pens and equipment properly and to display their exhibits in a showmanship manner, keeping stalls and animals clean and attractive at all times. 3. A judging committee will examine pens and livestock during the fair. The first inspection will be on Wednesday, after 6:00 p.m., the last inspection will be on Saturday evening before 10:00 p.m. 4. Clubs and Chapters will be judged on the following score card and the scores posted after each inspection. All maintaining 75% or above in club Herdsmanship will receive premium monies. Tack and equipment shall be left in place until 10:00 p.m. Saturday. 4-H will be award monies depending on small or large club size. Blue ribbons to those averaging 80-89 points and above; Red ribbons to those averaging 80-89 points, and White ribbons to those with average of 75-79 points. 5. Clubs and chapters or parents must furnish all necessary equipment for Herdsmanship. Items you will need or should have on hand: brooms, dustpan, small scoop shovel, a pair of wire pliers, wheel barrow and anything that will help to clean pen or pens of animals that are being shown. Superintendents are not responsible for furnishing these items!! 6. Club and Chapter leaders must verify the clubs and/or chapter information in the Livestock Office for premiums to be paid. Leaders and advisors may look at score sheet in Livestock Office daily. 1. Decorations may be used at each club’s discretion, but in no way should they create a fire hazard or block view of animals. 2. Parents’ and leaders’ help will be permitted until Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. From then on members are to do the work. 3. Points will be deducted from each inspection if parents are helping. 4. Feed buckets are to be removed when animals are not being fed. Superintendent has discretion to have feed buckets removed if considered a mess. Water is to be available to animals at all time. 5. Exhibitors shall not block the spectators view of the exhibit. 6. Stalls must show steady attention. 7. All stall cards and club banners, etc. must be in evidence at all times and displayed in a proper manner. 8. All tack boxes must be closed except when owners are getting supplies out of them or putting things away (exceptions to be made during exhibitors show time.) 9. All manure must be removed at all times. A covered manure pit or spreader will be designated. 10. Equipment must be stored neatly. 12. Equipment such as sheep blocking stands must be stored inconspicuously when not in use. All evidence of grooming, such as wool-clippings must be removed. 13. The Herdsmanship Superintendent shall review the livestock and poultry area from time to time during the Fair and shall be empowered to point out to the exhibitors violation of the Herdsmanship Contest. If such conditions are not corrected, the offending member of such 4-H club or FFA chapter will be determined by the Herdsmanship Superintendent and the Club and/or Chapter leaders and the Fair Directors will be empowered to withhold premium monies from that person. If violations continue during the span of the fair the member and/or student may not exhibit the following year.

Each exhibitor will be allowed to sell two market animals providing they were entered in a market class. All rabbit and poultry meat pens will sell starting with the high point animals first. 2. Once an animal has been sold and turned, the animal cannot be bought out of turn pen. 3. No animal deemed unworthy by Judges or Superintendent will be sold at the market stock sale. 4. All steers, lambs, swine and goats will be weighed on one scale. Check-in weight is final. Animals will not be permitted to re-weigh. Scale is digital and certified by WSDA. All animals below or above weight must leave the fairgrounds. 5. ALL take-home animals must be paid for by 5:00 p.m. Saturday (Sale Day) or it will be moved to the turn pen. 6. All transactions through the Livestock Office, including sale of animals and add-on’s, will be charged a 3% commission. 7. Checks must be cashed before 90 days or they will be considered a donation and a receipt will be issued.

Dairy Heifer Replacement Sale Rules: 1. All transactions through the Livestock Office, including sale of animals and add-on’s, will be charged a 3% commission. 2. Animals of all age classes are eligible to be sold through the sale. There will be no “no sales” animal. If the owner bids the animal back, the owner is subject to the commission fees. 3.All sales are final. Removal of the animal from the fairgrounds will be at standard release time and after animal has been properly paid for. 4. The program will be open to 4-H and FFA members who are eligible to participate at the YVF&R. 5. The members must be in possession of the animal a minimum of 90 days prior to the fair. 6. Heifers for this sale must have sufficient growth and development with relation to age. 7. Sale is open to grade or registered animals for this sale. 8. Animal should be sired by a registered or purebred bull (Identified). 9. If available, production records of the heifer’s dame production records should accompany animal. 10. All animals are required to carry a state brucellosis vaccination tattoo and ear tag.

4-H & Open Horse Show -Entries are due by July 28, 2012. -Post entries accepted up to day of show with additional $10.00 fee. 4-H Rules: 1. Yakima County Equine Guidelines and Washington State 4-H Performance Horse Show Rules will be followed or decided by show management. These are available on-line. Your County Extension office and 4-H horse club leader will have copies or availability of these rules. 2. All 4-H riders must wear ASTM-SEI approved riding helmets and 4-H approved riding boots. It is recommended for open riders but not required. 3. If you would like to use this show for a state qualifier, horse or horses must have been under the care and management of the 4-H member for 90 days prior to show date, and registered as a project animal! NO EXCEPTIONS! YOU MUST ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR 4-H HORSE CERTIFICATE TO YOUR ENTRY FORM! WALK/TROT CLASSES: This class is closed, participants may not enter in any loping classes. First year in competition, 2nd year to be approved by Yakima County Horse Council. See Yakima County guidelines. Second year riders send approval with entry form. MEDAL CLASSES: Please indicate which medal you will be riding for on your entry form and send copy of current Medal Certificate with entry. PLEASURE CLASSES: Western Pleasure to be shown at a flat footed walk, slow easy jog, smooth easy lope and any additional exercises the judge may require. A reasonably loose rein is to be used at all times. To be judged on manners and performance of horse. Entries shall be penalized for being on the wrong lead. English Pleasure classes shown according to their style. TRAIL CLASSES: Will be open to all participants. Western or English tack is permissible. Horses to be shown over and through obstacles. Gaming Show See Rules: Yakima County 4-H Horse Contest Guide & WSH Rule Book Rules: 1. All 4-H riders must be enrolled in horsemanship project. 2. All riders must wear approved ASTM helmets. The 4-H Equestrian Headgear Policy (PNW 574 p. 6) states that a 4-H member participating in any 4-H equestrian activity, regardless of riding seat, WILL WEAR a properly fitted equestrian helmet which meets the minimum performance standards imposed by the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) F1163 and includes certification and labeling required by the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI). Such headgear will be secured with the harness engaged and be properly fastened when mounted on an equine or in a vehicle (cart, wagon, buggy, etc.) being pulled by one or more equines. It is recommended that 4-H’ers wear their ASTM/SEI helmets any time they are around their horses. 3. All riders must wear long jeans and long sleeve shirts (Standard 4-H Western clothing). Belts, ties, and pins are optional. 4. All riders must wear “Safe Equine Riding Boots” boots. (Yakima County Equine guidelines.) -Boot must fit flat in the stirrup with the ball of the foot on the flat of the iron or stirrup. -Boot must be able to move freely in the stirrup and be able to slide out. -Boot heel must have an adequate heel stop to prevent the forward movement of the boot through the stirrup. ***Exposed Toed Shoes are NOT ALLOWED at any 4-H Equine event by anyone handling or that may handle equines. 5. Western Games require the humane treatment of all animals entered in state and county competitions. Exhibitors are expected to treat their animals with respect and provide for their continuous well-being through proper feeding, handling, disease prevention, sanitation, and attention to the animals’ safety. Officials should be prepared to dismiss exhibitors who abuse and mistreat their animals. 6. The exhibitor must be wearing his or her exhibitor number on his or her back or both sides of the horse at all times while mounted. 7. Horsemanship, sportsmanship, and safety will be stressed in all Western Gaming classes. Exhibitors may be asked to submit to a close inspection. The purpose of the close inspection is to demonstrate an exhibitor’s ability to handle and control the horse in a safe manner. The close inspection will also provide the show management an opportunity to examine the tack and equipment being used by the rider. Exhibitors failing the close inspection will not be allowed to make their scheduled run in that event. Safety of the exhibitor, horse, and volunteers is the most important aspect of the program. 8. Contestants may ride only once in each event (exception: re-rides). Riders may hold onto the saddle horn. Two hands may be used on the reins and hands may be changed. Arena Safety: 1. During the running of any event, all arena gates must be closed. 2. Contestants must enter the arena mounted in a controlled manner, and may leave the arena after judge’s final acknowledgment. After Judge’s acknowledgment, exhibitor may dismount, reins off the neck for safety, and exit. 3. It is recommended that only one horse be in the arena at one time. Only contestants, ring crew, and officials are allowed in the arena. 4. Horses may not be tied to arena fences, rails or any other hazardous place. 5. Horses that constitute a safety hazard may be disqualified. 6. In all events the ring crew resets downed equipment or repairs lines after a rider has completed the course. 7. Enter the arena without assistance from anyone other than a 4-H member who is also mounted. 8. Raking will be done as needed, but must be consistent within each age division.

1. All entries must be made on official entry forms and tags giving the following information. a. Legible name and addresses of exhibitor b. Department, Division, Class (if applicable) c. Description of exhibit d. Grade in school e. Club information 2. No smoking will be allowed in the fair buildings. 3. Cars, trucks and bicycles are not allowed on the grounds except designated parking areas after Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. with the exception of loading and unloading Thursday through Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. 4. Exhibitors parking passes are for South gate only. North gate may only be used for unloading animals Tuesday through Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. 5. Parking pass must be in the vehicle’s window at all times. Parking pass is NOT fair admission. All vehicle occupants must have season pass, exhibitor wrist band, pass, etc. Vehicles subject to be towed if parked in area other than designated parking for that pass. 6. Late entries will be accepted at discretion of division superintendent. 7. Rules and Regulations covering various divisions will be found at the beginning of those divisions in the premium book. 8. All livestock exhibitors must turn in to the Livestock Superintendent their Record Book, Brand Slips and Bill of Sale, before receiving Entrance Passes. 9. 4-H Age Division based on highest grade completed in school by the time of the fair: NOVICE - 12 & Under as of January 1 and have never shown any livestock in Fitting & Showing at any fair. Camp Host: Gary & Sherry Schloss - 840-1146 DEADLINE FOR CAMPING REGISTRATION IS JULY 22, 2012. (See registration form on page 72) Rules: 1. CAMPING SPOTS WILL BE ASSIGNED BY THE CAMPING SUPERINTENDENT. 2. CAMPING PERMITS MUST BE DISPLAYED IN RV WINDOW 3. Entrance is the South gate. All vehicles accompanying RVs must display parking permits at all times. All occupants in vehicle passing through South gate must have proof of fair admission (wristband, season pass, etc.) 4. NO DOGS ALLOWED OR RV WILL BE SENT HOME, except by special permission through Livestock Directors. Dogs must be kept quiet. 5. ABSOLUTELY NO BICYCLES ALLOWED ON GROUNDS. 6. Lanes of ten feet between rows of RVs must remain open at all times for emergency access and fire. Vehicles blocking emergency access will be towed away at owner’s expense. 7. RVs must be of a type of design approved by the Fair Board. If you have questions, contact the camping superintendent. 8. Small tents will be allowed if they can fit with your other accommodations. Otherwise, two spaces must be reserved. 9. The Fair assumes no responsibility for damage or injuries to any RVs or occupants at any camp site. 10. Any RV without qualified adult supervision will be excluded from the grounds. List names of occupants on RV registration. Adult must be at least 21 years old. 11. Reservations along with fees, must be sent to the fair office no later than July 22 for space assignments. The fee is $40.00 and includes one adult season ticket and vehicle parking pass. 12. Reservations must be filled out completely or they will be returned. 13. RVs must be parked between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday of fair week. If you will be late, please contact Sherry at 840.1146. 14. There will be a $5 add-on for entries received after July 22. 15. RVs are to be moved out on Sunday by 10:00 a.m. 16. NO WATER OR ELECTRICAL HOOKUPS 17. “Reservation for camping space” form can be found towards the back of this book. The above stated rules are for your protection and convenience as well as to provide emergency and location information to the Fair Board Personnel. Completion of the registration form and payment thereof, constitutes acceptance of the foregoing rules by the adult in charge and all occupants using your assigned camping area. 18.
