Making a Difference The world’s first digital computer was invented at ISU by John Atanasoff. Lipitor, the biggest-selling drug in history, was developed by alum Bruce Roth. George Washington Carver (pictured) was a world renowned plant scientist, who earned two degrees from Iowa State.


Academic facilities The Hixson-Lied Student Success Center (pictured) was opened in 2007. It includes space for academic tutors, a resource library, computer labs and study rooms. The Rod & Connie French Athletics Academic Center (second floor of the facility) is dedicated for student-athlete use only. It is conveniently located for easy access.

A great place to live With a population of more than 60,000, Ames is revered for its friendliness and its varied entertainment and cultural opportunities. Main street often bustles with parades and festivals (below) and Campustown (right) is full of shops and eateries, popular among students.


Beauty of Iowa State ISU has one of only three campuses nationally to earn a medallion (for its beauty) from the American Society of Landscape Architects. Centralized location

Iowa State is located minutes from an interstate exchange meaning that it is less than a day’s drive from Minneapolis (204 miles), Kansas City (208), Omaha (131), St. Louis (295), Milwaukee (290) or Chicago (307). The state capital -- Des Moines (pictured) -- is 30 minutes from central campus. Located in the heart of the midwest, Ames boasts a small-town charm with large city amenities nearby.

Leisure time ISU students love to congregate on central campus and the Memorial Union (right). Entertainment options range from Big 12 athletics to Broadway shows; pop artists to comedy acts and dance recitals to operas. Iowa State has played host to acts like Kenny Chesney (pictured), Billy Joel, the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Paul McCartney and many others.

The Big 12 The Big 12 Conference has claimed 54 team and 587 individual NCAA titles. The Big 12 Conference is made up of 4,600 athletes in 24 different sports. In wrestling, the Big 12 Conference has had 56 individual NCAA Champions and four NCAA Team Championships.


Kevin Jackson The 2015-16 season marks Jackson’s seventh year at the helm of Iowa State wrestling. In his time with the program, the 1992 Olympic Gold Medalist has coached four NCAA champions, eight AllAmericans and seven Big 12 champions, leading the team to a third-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championships. Prior to Iowa State, Jackson served as the National Freestyle Coach for USA Wrestling, coaching Cael Sanderson and Henry Cedujo to Olympic gold medals. In three appearances at the Wrestling World Cup, his teams finished in the top-3 three times, including a team championship in 2001. As a collegiate athlete, Jackson was a fourtime All-American at LSU and Iowa State, where he was named Captain and finished runner-up at the NCAA Championships.


Cyclone Olympians Iowa State wrestling has been represented at 13 Olympiads, sending multiple members to the games seven times. Cyclone wrestlers have reached the pinnacle of the sport six times, bringing home the gold at five diffferent Olympic competitions. Most recently, former Cyclone national champion Jake Varner captured Olympic Gold at the 2012 London Games.


Cyclone National Champions In the program’s history, Cyclone Wrestling has captured eight NCAA team titles, and 49 Cyclone wrestlers have earned the title of National Champion, capturing a total of 69 NCAA crowns. 16 Iowa State grapplers have won multiple national titles, with Cael Sanderson topping the list as the program’s only four-time national champion. Over the years, Iowa State has had multiple studentathletes crowned at 16 NCAA Championships, including four in 1987 and three 6 times.


Conference Success Iowa State Wrestling has captured 15 conference team titles and 131 individual conference titles in the program’s history. The Cyclones have won titles as members of the Missouri Valley, Big 6, Big 7, Big 8 and Big 12 conferences


Strength and Conditioning Iowa State athletes train in an athlete-only Olympic weight room with specialized strength coaches. Athletes have access to chiropractic care, massage and ART (Active Release Technique) specialists, and state of the art facilities to assist their elite level training regimens.


Harold Nichols Wrestling Room Named for the legendary Cyclone wrestling coach, the Harold Nichols Wrestling Room provides one of the nation’s premier training environments, while also showcasing the program’s success over the years. The facitily is complete with four full-size wrestling mats, exercise equipment and a team lounge. Outside the entry way, the ‘walk of fame’ showcases Iowa State Olympians, national champions and other notable figures in program history.


Hilton Coliseum James H. Hilton Coliseum opened its doors on Dec. 2, 1971, with a price tag of $8.15 million. Over its 35-year history, the building has been home to the Cyclone basketball, gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling teams and has hosted several NCAA events and countless numbers of memorable moments in Iowa State athletics history. Now, Hilton Coliseum has been transformed into one of the nation’s finest wrestling arenas. Hilton offers visitors the excitement of collegiate wrestling in the comfort of theater-style seats. The addition of a spectacular new score and video board introduced by Daktronics in 2006 distinguishes Hilton Coliseum from its competition. The system includes a center-hung score and video display featuring Daktronics’ ProStar technology and ProAd digital displays. The new video boards have the capability to showcase game information, statistics, amazing colorful animation and spectacular video images.
