Day of Service The Volunteer Resource Center has been at the forefront of experiential education at CU-Boulder for nearly 45 years. The VRC brings together students and the local community through its many service programs and opportunities. Day of Service helps to provide every first-year student with an opportunity to connect with one another, with their campus, and with their community as soon as they arrive at CU. Research confirms that exposing our students to community service and outreach provides them with an opportunity to become engaged as long term members of their campus and local communities. VRC works to canvass specific community needs, to build a community of active citizens, and to sustain a culture of volunteerism at CU-Boulder through Day of Service programming.

Day of Service 2012 impact — Year 1: Laying the Foundation On August 25, 2012, VRC successfully delivered the first Day of Service. • 122 students involved • 344 hours of service • Service labor provided by the volunteers saved a total of approximately $19,000 in labor costs for our partnering organizations • Yard work provided by volunteers saved participating households, with an average annual income of $12,000, approximately $210 each
