PASTOR HARRY THOMAS Creation Founder and Speaker Pastor to Pastor

I

have been an ordained pastor for over 42 years (yikes!). One of my favorite responses from the people who attend Creation is from the Pastors and youth leaders who bring a group. I love to hear the cheering crowds, but when a pastor tells me how his young people were touched by Christ, that just thrills me! As a pastor I know how important it is to reach young peoplesuch testimonials always bless me. Statistics say that the church worldwide is loosing young people. That’s hard to believe when you see thousands young people praising God and many streaming forward to the Prayer Tent during the altar call. We do not have to loose our young people. Instead I believe we need to embrace them with the truth and the love of Christ and His claims for their lives. We need to let them know they are not alone in their faith. Since 1979, Creation strived to never miss an opportunity to preach the glorious gospel of Christ. Never missing the precious moment to invite people to receive Christ as Savior and Lord. You would think I would take it for granted when thousands come forward for prayer

Creation Festival experience is how the Word of God is not a side-issue. It has always been front and center! We all know that a lot of things can fade away but the Word of God endures forever and never goes forth without returning with a harvest.

Last summer my life was changed drastically. This change was due to Creation Fest Northeast 2011, which is the largest Christian music festival in North America. Creation was more or less a “Christian Woodstock”. Over 100,000 Christians gathered to a farm in the middle of no-where to listen to today’s best music and listen to a couple speakers each night. Sounds a lot like Woodstock, right? The answer is yes but only to a degree are these two the same. Creation Fest had a major impact on my life because for once my eyes were opened! Every day we had our morning talk, followed by a couple of hours to go to a couple different stages to listen to a distinct group of bands. After the mid-day talk and a couple more hours of music, we gathered back to the main stage where we had the nights “main act” and a final talk which was special every night. The night that opened my eyes the most was the second to last night where we gathered around 11:30 PM and lit candles. When you looked up to the crowd of people, you saw an ocean of light. It was a very emotional night to say the least. Whereever you looked, you saw candles lit. During this time we prayed, sang together, and talked to one another. That night was the best night of my life because of the time spent together with every single one of those people. I would not be me if I had not experienced that night. Because of this experience, I have had the chance to connect with a distinct group of people, my youth group. I opened up more as a person. Also I have started being a leader to some people within this group to those who are having troubles in school work. - Bronson Pelfrey I have been to Creation 5 times. This summer is going to be my 6th time going. I love it so much. Every time I go it is different. The very first time I saw Family Force 5 I was shocked. I have never heard anything like them; they are now one of my favorite bands.

The Porta-Potty Picture!

I started going to Creation Northeast at the age of 3. I have seen many bands through that period of time. Creation has helped me come closer to God. My family and I have very good memories about going there. I plan on taking my cousin when she turns 12 years old. - Bethany

Me and KJ52 at Creation 2011

The first time I saw Hawk Nelson I was blown away. My name is in one of their songs. It made my day when I heard them sing ‘Hello’. I can’t stop talking about Creation. Every year I look forward to going. I can’t wait until this year I am counting down the days. I think that everyone should go because it is amazing. - Madeline Staples

The following are YOU R personal stories of sp iritual growth and tran from Creation Festival sformation s to the WORLD!

Creation Northeast 2011 was my very first Creation, and I got to bring my best friend Lisah wish made the experience much more fun. I met so many new friends and developed my faith so much.

I give so much thanks to the staff and the people at the prayer tent for helping me through, because my mother works for AAFES, which helps the army in Afghanistan, and it was hard because that day she was leaving. I could see her before she left because I was at Creation, but the people there were so kind and I then felt better.

Creationfest has always been something huge that I’ve always wanted to be a part of, my first time going was when I was 13, I only bought tickets for one day so I could see one band, but I walked away wanted to be there for the whole festival. The next year I went was when I was 14, I volunteered and it was the best experience of my life! It was so fun hanging out with the bands and growing closer in my walk with the Lord! my mom and I are planning on going to Creationfest every year for now on and bringing friends to help us volunteer! - Tenille Hockenbury

I started going to Creation Northeast in 2009. In the campsite I was called the “Newbie” and to be honest I didn’t know if I would enjoy myself that year because the only band I had heard of was Relient K and I was only going for Relient K, but I’m glad I went because I ended up loving a lot of the bands on the line up thatyear. It was also my first time ever camping and I found out camping was amazing. Creation is just a great experience for me because I get spiritually fed and I justlove the fellowship of all the Christians together in one place and it just amazesme during candlelight service how many people are there; everytime I see it I get a tear to my eye and I just can’t help to smile. It is also amazing after the speakers during alter call how many people dedicate their life to Christ or to rededicate their life. There are so many each year it’s great. I can feel the presence of God here, out of all the festivals this is one of them.

I am so thankful that back in 2008 I went to the Allegany County Fair and checkedout the exhibits because I wouldn’t have seen the CIA Christians In Action) table there, the people running the table told me about Creation and I got interested and so glad they gave me the newsletter because ever since 2009 I’ve been going to Creation and I’m very close friends with the people that have the table and I thank them for taking me and being my friend, but most importantly I thank God for them coming into my life and that I was able to go to Creation and I hope to continue to come. I hope to see ya this summer!!! - Ashleigh Ruthanna Crabtree

DAVID CROWDER Creation is proud to announce that David Crowder’s new collective, simply called Crowder, will be playing at Creation Northeast

Named among the “most thoughtful, progressive and exciting awcts in contemporary Christian music” by The New York Times, the popular yet unconventional David Crowder*Band unveiled their final collection of new music this year with the release of Give Us Rest or (a requiem mass in c [the happiest of all keys]). As the follow-up to the GRAMMY ® nominated Church Music, Give Us Rest gave the band the highest debut of their career selling over 50,000 units in one week, landing them in the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Top 200. David Crowder*Band’s music video for “SMS (Shine)” nabbed coverage on NBC’s The Today Show, Fox & Friends, USA Today, Billboard and Paste Magazine online as well as a GMA Dove Award win for “Short Form Video of the Year.” The video was also recognized at the LA Film Festival in 2011.

Along with the group’s 9 GMA Dove Awards and 22 nominations, the band was the first Christian artist to be named MSN.com’s Artist of the Year in 2006. David Crowder is part of the Passion Movement, participating in university student gatherings in the US and around the world. As the David Crowder*Band has now put a period at the end of its sentence, a new chapter is emerging. With much anticipation, this summer at Creation Northeast, David Crowder will take the stage performing with his new collective, simply called, Crowder, for one of the first times ever. Fans attending Creation Northeast can expect more of what they’ve always loved about David Crowder over the years - the songs, the worship, the innovation - and now they get to be a part of the new beginning. TENTH AVENUE NORTH CREATION STORY

From Front Row to Center Stage Written by Jason Jamison (Drummer for Tenth Avenue North)

reation started, for me, when I attended my first Creation Festival at two years of age. I have been to Creation 23 out of 30 years of my life.

“A Tribute To Our Creator.”

The first Creation I missed was because I was out touring with “Tenth Avenue Some of the best times were when I was a teen North.” We toured for about six years and then we and began to realize that Creation “The moments that got word that there was a possibility of was about music, God and worship. really stick out in my us playing at Creation! about you, God humbles you and wakes you up that this is not about me – it’s about Him. As we have played Creation, being back stage and meeting Pastor Harry Thomas and the staff of Creation and the faces I have known, I have had the chance to get to know their heart behind why they do the festival. They really want to focus in on people meeting with God. As 10th Avenue North continues to come back to Creation we are hopeful that we contribute to that goal. We are excited to be back at Creation in 2012, and to be part of a festival that was so huge in my childhood and teenage life, and to come back and hopefully give back to a festival that gave so much to me as a young person. We want to get people excited and play our music, but we want to leave

the stage knowing people have met God and have been changed by His presence. That’s our goal when we play at Creation.

If you’ve been to a Creation Festival, you know what’s it’s like to Live, Love, and Share the Experience. The Creation Experience begins with incredible live concerts and top of the line sound and lights, brings you into heavenly worship, offers kids activities and entertainment, inspirational speakers, stadium size communion service, a breathtaking candle light service, baptism with over 400 of your closest friends, and even an energetic 5 am tarp run. Over the years, we’ve worked hard to deepen the Creation experience with ministry opportunities as well. We’ve heard stories of people who’ve attend Creation and then went on to serve in foreign countries on mission trips. Mission’s work has always been a huge part of Creation and specifically Africa holding a place dear to our hearts and ministry purpose. Rarely do thousands of people have the opportunity to go to Africa, so this year Creation is bringing AFRICA to over 100,000 people in Pennsylvania and Washington. NOW, we can Share THE WORLD VISION EXPERIENCE in a whole new way with World Vision’s interactive exhibit LIVE at Creation 2012. THE EXPERIENCE combines stirring audio and captivating photography, transporting you to the heart of Africa. Along with this is the Journey to Jamaa interactive, film-based worship service. This will allow you to experience poverty through the eyes of two children from Uganda. It is a compelling biblical message about God’s heart for the poor. It’s an:

- Unforgettable - Engaging - Authentic - Moving - Personal

and Intimate Experience. Much like Creation Festival, World Vision’s THE EXPERIENCE will change you. You see, hear and experience stories of tragedy and triumph lived out by real children in AIDS - affected communities And you’ll gain a completely new perspective on the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time. Steve Vonderau – Gates / Ticketing

I was over 50 years old the first time I volunteered at CreationFest. Won’t tell you how much over 50 I was, but I was definitely over 50. So here I am, signing up to volunteer at a Christian music festival I had never heard of before that day. Not sure why I volunteered, but I know God had everything to do with that decision. So, I get to the Festival at The Gorge Amphitheater in George. Set up camp and go to the orientation. I am feeling the “love” as I received a wristband, name badge, T-shirt, and a cool bucket hat. I am now a fully trained official volunteer staff person! The next day I am off to my first job assignment. A lot of people are asking me if I had seen the stage, and to make sure to go look at it when I got off shift. So, walking down to the main stage at the Gorge for the first time, I see this big banner hanging over the stage. It said, “A TRIBUTE TO OUR CREATOR”. God gave me the answer to my why, in a great big, all caps banner. And every year after that, he gives me a reminder in a great big, all caps banner hanging over the main stage. Creationfest is “A TRIBUTE TO OUR CREATOR”, but so are each one of the volunteers that come to help. As volunteers we give tribute to our creator by serving him with the gifts he has given us. We give all the glory to God. God is good! All the time! I have served in many different areas: Public Safety, Arena Security, Traffic, Entrance Gates, Setup and Teardown. I love them all, but Gates is my favorite. I like entrance gates because we are the first contact the festival guest’s have with a festival volunteer. So we have the cool job of not only scanning their ticket, but making sure they feel welcome. We are the “welcome wagon” at the festival. God has put us there to be a blessing to all the people that we get to meet at the entrance gates. We have guests that share with us why they are at the festival, how many times they have attended, and who is their favorite band or speaker. I love serving Christ at CreationFest. God has graciously blessed me at both Creation West and Creation East with great Christian friends. It is an honor to pray, share and work with my Christian brothers and sisters at both festivals. My prayer is that we all leave the festival refreshed in our faith that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2Corinthians 13:14

The San Diego band first formed in 1996 when Foreman and his brother Tim put the group together. Butler says the band members were all friends from their days at Carlsbad High. At the time, the San Diego indie rock scene was thriving as bands such as Rocket from the Crypt and Drive Like Jehu had just started to gain national attention. In keeping true to its San Diego roots, the band annually hosts Switchfoot Bro-Am, an event that benefits the San Diegobased StandUp for Kids, a national volunteer outreach nonprofit. The Bro-Am includes a surf contest, charity auction, and festival concert. The event has raised over $500,000 to date, and this year’s event attracted 10,000 people. “San Diego has given us so much,” Foreman says. “Bro-Am is the most rewarding week of our lives. I’ve been given so much, it’s natural for me to give back to these kids who have been dealt a tricky hand. These are amazing kids who are dealing with all sorts of issues.” In addition to his role in Switchfoot, Foreman still finds time for Fiction Family, the acoustic outfit that he fronts alongside Nickel Creek’s Sean Watkins. He has also become a columnist for the Huffington Post and writes about topics as wideranging as his backyard garden and inspirational civil rights leaders. “We love music and playing together,” he

says. We thrive on the communal aspect of song and the stories that are invested within. We’ve been through a lot together… Incredible, wonderful moments and also really destructive, painful moments. You can feel that weight in some of the songs. It’s an incredible dream-come-true to say, ‘It’s time for a new Switchfoot record’ and to be able to go into the studio and make the album exactly how we want to make it.”

Switchfoot will be playing Creation Northeast, Saturday June 30 & Creation Northwest, Friday July 20

NINE LASHES

Playing the FRINGE Stage at Creation Northwest

Nine Lashes Q&A answers from frontman Jeremy Dunn

Q: What would you like to change about the music industry? A: We want to be more than just a band people listen to. We want to be an encouragement to our fans, but more than that, we want to be a resource. Maybe we make a website where our fans can connect with other believers. Maybe we have videos that can teach them and help them in their faith. Whatever it is, I feel that Christian music should do more than entertain.

Q: How did the band form? A: Tank started playing music years ago. Members came and went. There’s not really a “Nine Lashes” origin story as much as there’s each of our individual stories of how we joined.I was in another band, playing guitar. KUTLESS

Playing Main Stage at Creation NE&NW Kutless’ guitarist James Mead talks about their new studio release… Q: We are so excited about your new release! Can you tell us a little more about the new album and what we can expect? A: Our forthcoming album is full of some really great songs (in my opinion). We are really excited for how the messages of these songs will start to move in people’s lives, as God speaks to them. Our past few records have been somewhat manic in nature, not really settling in on one sound or the other. Over the years I think people have heard two sides of Kutess, so to speak…rock band and worship band. I think this record contains the best of both sides of our ministry. We are a rock band who is passionate about our songs being worshipful. Q: What is the title of the new

NICK VUJICIC (SPEAKING AT CREATION)

Vujicic can do everything that an able bodied person can do, including surfing, writing and typing

With his beautiful new wife Kanae Miyahara

Meet Nick Vujicic, pronounced ‘Vooycheech’. Born in 1982 in Brisbane, Australia, without any medical explanation or warning, Nicholas Vujicic came into the world with neither arms nor legs. Imagine the shock his parents felt when they saw their first-born brand new baby boy for the first time, only to find he was what the world would consider imperfect and abnormal. A limbless son was not what nurse Dushka Vujicic, and her husband Pastor Boris Vujicic had been expecting. How would their son live a normal happy life? What could he ever do or become when living with such a massive disability? Little did they or anyone else know that this beautiful limbless baby would one day be someone who would inspire and motivate people from all walks of life. God uses Nick to touch lives and bring the hope of Jesus Christ to people across the globe.

Throughout his childhood, Nick dealt not only with the typical challenges of school and adolescence such as bullying and self-esteem issues; but also struggled with depression and loneliness. He constantly questioned why he was different than all the other kids surrounding him; why he was the one born without arms and legs. He wondered what the purpose behind his life was, or if he even had a purpose. According to Nick, the victory over his struggles throughout his journey, as well as the strength and passion he has for life can be credited to his faith in God. His family, friends and the many people he has encountered along the way have also encouraged him.
