Ray girls’ basketball returns to action By Andrew Luberda Copper Basin News The Bearcats girls’ basketball team was victorious in two of the three games it played last week. They defeated Chandler Prep and Hayden before a loss at San Carlos last Friday night. In their two victories, the Bearcats allowed only 21 points per game while scoring an average of 56.5 points per game. Junior Sidney Chenoweth along with sophomores Stormee Galka and Savannah Willis each scored in double figures in the two wins. Chenoweth had 16 points in each game, Galka added 12 points in each game, and Willis scored 12 and 10 points, respectively. The ‘Cats have an overall record of 7 – 10, including 3 – 1 in section play. They’re upcoming schedule includes games at Mogollon on January 17, 2014, and home versus Hayden on January 21. Both games start at 5:30 p.m.

Three Bearcats named to All-Section Volleyball Team By Andrew Luberda Copper Basin News Three members of the Bearcats’ state tournament team were named to the AIA365.com Division V, Section IV All-Section

team. Sophomore Stormee Galka (Hitter/Middle Blocker) was named to the first team while juniors Sabrina Martinez (Hitter/ Middle Blocker) and Sidney Chenoweth (Setter) were named

to the second team. The ‘Cats earned the 10th seed in the state volleyball tournament after a 21 – 10 – 1 regular season record. They lost in the first round to seventh-seeded Joy Christian.
