BIM Assessment •

The BIM Assessment was the first item to complete for the BIM process on the CERC project.

This assessed the Dominic O'Connor LTD BIM capabilities.

DOC found this beneficial in the planning and implementing the BIM standards required for this project and what exactly was expected from DOC as lead coordinators on a BIM level 2 project.

Project Set-Up •

To get started on this project DOC were issued JV Tierney Mechanical Design model.

The Common data environment - 4 projects used was on the CERC project. All DOC models & drawings were to comply with the naming convention upon upload to the CDE.

Once the other single discipline models were linked in to the DOC mechanical model we started the process of modelling all plant and equipment that would be installed in the CERC project

Because there was such effort put in from all disciplines in the BIM process DOC were able to manufacture a number of systems off site in their mechanical services work shop.

•

The real benefit of the BIM process for this

project has been the ability to coordinate the sequencing of the mechanical installation, materials and resources for a more efficient construction process.

All drawings and schedule outputs were derived from the BIM model.

All Construction issue mechanical drawings were issued fully

dimensioned and labelled for set out reducing any on site confusion

Setting out in BIM •

The RC frame was set out using the Structural Model

A new 3D “Set-out Export” view was created within the structural model with any elements not required hidden.

The model was then exported to DXF format

COBie •

COBie Extension Revit plugin

COBie Extension adds new Data parameters for objects which can be mapped to existing Revit parameters during setup.

During the construction stage each task team populated the info within the model in parallel to the technical submittal process.

Facility info such as Space & Floor etc. are held within the Revit schedules

Any info that cannot be mapped needs to be input manually

Classification •

Uniclass 2

Default Revit provides only classification numbers from the US based Omniclass standard.

Revit does not currently allow you to assign Uniclass numbers.

Therefore to use the Uniclass classification on projects within the UK & Ireland the Omniclass file installed (as standard) with Revit needs to be replaced with its UK counterpart, Uniclass 2

We replace the Ominclass Text file with Uniclass 2 Text file

Zutec is the Service provider & platform we acquired for the HSE for facilities management for the whole life-cycle of the building.

All design teams must supply Zutec with element schedules including GUID’s. “Globally Unique Identifier”

This can be extracted from an .ifc or .rvt file by Zutec or if schedule provided each element must have GUID assigned and listed.

The subcontractor will supply all operation & maintenance information in the required format and to upload all information into the supplied templates (All packages).

• The sub-contractor will ensure that their 3D model is in line with the project guidelines allowing for the creation of a federated As-Built model.

Snagging onsite •

Barcodes were created for each room based on the rooms that’s the Design Team created in Revit.

Once we had a Barcode for each room we could prepopulate information for each snag using the onsite snagging tool. • Room name • User
