graduation piedmont high school Piedmont High School will hold commencement exercises for 63 seniors at 7:30 p.m. at Field of Champions. Baccalaureate services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Piedmont. Andy Green, Jacksonville State University director of enrollment management, will speak. Valedictorian is Lauren Brown. She is the daughter of Chad and Angie Brown of Nances Creek and the granddaughter of Johnny Mack and Vivian Brown of Nances Creek and Gene Hughes of Piedmont and the late Barbara Hughes. Brown was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Government Association, Technology Student Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Senior Council, a varsity and competition cheerleader, received the Good Citizenship Award, Presidential Scholar Award, Anniston Star’s Top Teen of the Week, scholastic achievement awards in math, science, English and history, was chosen to participate as a Youth Leader of Calhoun County representative. She plans to attend Auburn University and major in biomedical science, then attend Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University and pursue a doctorate in pharmacy. Salutatorian is Ethan Paul Downey. He is the son of Michael and Michele Downey and the grandson of Larry and Connie Downey. Downey was a member of the Piedmont Blue Knights Marching Band, captain of the trumpet section and soloist at the half-time shows. He was a member of the Technology Student Association where he served as vice-president of his high school chapter and received numerous awards at state conferences, including 1st place in the category of Digital Video Production. He was a member of the National

Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. He plans to attend the University of Alabama and major in computer science and be a part of the University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band. Historian is Hilarie Renae Hincy. She is the daughter of Tammie Hincy of Piedmont and the late Kevin Hincy and the granddaughter of Sandra Cain of Piedmont and the late Jesse Cain and Gary and Yvonne Hincy of Spring Garden. Hincy played varsity volleyball, basketball and softball, was a member of the Student Government Association, Future Business Leaders of America, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Teens Need Teens/Students Against Destructive Decisions and the Senior Council. She plans to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham and major in history and will participate in the Global and Community Leadership Honors Program.
