Athletic Events

Fans of all ages can find a sporting event to cheer . the largest exhibit hall between Seattle and the Twin Cities. With seating of over 13,000 for football or soccer and up to 22,000 for entertainment programs, it offers space for a variety of events. The Alerus Center also offers convention facilities.

University of North Dakota Envy of the Hockey World At over 400,000 square feet, the five-story Ralph Engelstad Arena features a suite level with 48 luxury suites and four party suites. The ice level has state-of-the-art locker/training rooms for the Fighting Sioux, with a huge weight-training area, lounge, and classroom/ study area. The main concourse level has a lobby for ticket sales, coaches’ offices, a pro shop, and a spacious area featuring trophies, pictures, uniforms, and All-Americans. The main arena seats approximately 12,000, with an additional 800 suite seats. Spacious concourses serve a variety of stadium food and are ­complete with TV monitors. Thanks to the generosity of Ralph Engelstad, the University of North Dakota has a facility that is the envy of the NCAA and the world!

The Ralph Engelstad Arena brought the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championship to Grand Forks and has played host to a number of curling events. In 2008, “the Ralph” hosted the Men’s World Curling Championship. Court Sports Betty Engelstad Sioux Center is home to UND men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball. “The Betty” seats 4,000 and has four regulation-size basketball courts and four regulation-size volleyball courts. There are three team locker rooms, a players lounge, a study area, and classroom space. Gridiron Action Grand Forks’ premier events center, the Alerus Center, is home to UND Fighting Sioux football. Varsity and Community Sports The University of North Dakota features women’s and men’s hockey, basketball, worldclass swimming and diving, and other varsity sports. UND also sponsors the Sioux Kids Club, an opportunity for grade school students to meet their favorite players and attend occasional games for free. Each year, sports camps for area youth take place on the campus of UND, including basketball, hockey, swimming, volleyball, and football camps. UND staff provide instruction and position sessions, emphasizing smallgroup instruction and good sportsmanship.

High School Sports Grand Forks and East Grand Forks public and private schools offer varsity sports that include football, hockey, volleyball, basketball, soccer, tennis, track, wrestling, golf, dance, and gymnastics.
