COURSES FOR GRADES 6–7 Students may choose one 10-week course per term. Please select a different class each term.

3D ILLUSTRATION

Learn basic modeling techniques to create 3D narrative artwork. Students are led through the process of character development from sketch to final 3D form. Students are encouraged to reach deep into their imaginations and create fantastical figures with an eye to story, concept, characteristics, and environment.

ART AND TECHNOLOGY

Emphasizing the computer and camera as tools, this course explores creativity and personal vision, helping transform the way students think about computers, art, and photography. Using CCAD’s extensive computer imaging facilities, students create unique works extending the possibilities of an image and highlighting their creativity through image manipulation and composition.

BEGINNING PAINTING

Beginning Painting expands students’ understanding of color theory as it applies to observational painting. Students explore a variety of paint materials from tempera to acrylic, watercolor, and more. Traditional painting techniques as well as experimentation are used to guide students toward greater confidence in the medium and in their ability to create unique, expressive works.

DESIGN

This course is a formal introduction to the elements and principles of design, a cornerstone of critical thinking and creative problem solving. Using a variety of media and techniques, the class builds a student’s ability to make critical judgments about art and create well-designed works.

DRAWING INTO COLOR

Students are encouraged to build a strong foundation of drawing skills. This class investigates the technical skills of drawing including color theory, mark making, line, value, composition, observational drawing, and abstraction.

ILLUSTRATED COMICS

In this course, students learn how illustration, ideas, script, layout, and media work together to tell a compelling story or illustrated comic. Supporting students’ discovery of their own ideas through drawing skills and illustration techniques, this class helps each student to realize and pursue ideas and imagination through narrative art.
