OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR/QUARTERBACKS SECOND SEASON MARYLAND ‘97
Jaime Elizondo was named Columbia's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in March 2012. Elizondo’s scheme allowed All-Ivy League running back Marcorus Garrett to flourish in 2012. Garrett rushed for 957 yards, the second best single-season effort in school history and the most by a Lion since the 2000. Elizondo came to Columbia after spending two seasons in the Canadian Football League as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Toronto Argonauts. With a proven track record in the NFL, NCAA and CFL, he quickly caught the attention of Columbia Head Football Coach Pete Mangurian. “Jaime (Elizondo) was at the top of my list when I was putting together my staff, and he is a natural fit,” said Mangurian. “He has offensive coordinator experience at a high level. He’s coached quarterbacks at a high level, and I’m happy to have him on board.” At Toronto, Elizondo coached three offensive players to 2010 CFLPA All-Star honors and helped the Argonauts reach the 2010 East Division Finals. In 2009, he coached the wide receivers at Syracuse including Mike Williams, a finalist for the Fred Biletnikoff Award presented to the nation’s best collegiate receiver. Prior to that, Elizondo was the wide receivers/assistant special teams coach for the Montreal Alouettes in 2008. The Alouettes had three all-star receivers in Ben Cahoon, Kerry Watkins and Jamel Richardson that year. All three receivers were in the top five of the CFL in receiving yardage and helped the Alouettes reach the Grey Cup Finals. During his time in Montreal, the Alouettes led the CFL in total passing touchdowns, total yards and scoring. From 2004-07, Elizondo served as the wide receivers and special teams coach at Hofstra in addition to serving as the team's recruiting coordinator. At Hofstra, the Pride featured the Atlantic 10’s leading receiver each season and in 2007, ranked sixth nationally in punt return average.

At Hofstra, Elizondo mentored Charles Sullivan, Marques Colston, Devale Ellis, Shaine Smith, Kyle Arrington and Khareem Huggins who all went on to successful careers in the NFL. In his final year at Hofstra, Elizondo was selected to participate in the Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship Program with the New Orleans Saints. During his fellowship, he worked with the Saints’ wide receivers and special teams units. Elizondo began his coaching career as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Georgetown Prep in Rockville, Maryland. After serving as the assistant recruiting coordinator at the University of Maryland in 2000, Elizondo broke into the college coaching ranks as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach for Catholic University in 2001. From 2002-03, he was the tight ends and special teams co-coordinator at William & Mary.
