June just wouldn’t be the same without it; an explosion of theatre ignites itself in Barnstaple. 32 companies from across the UK and beyond presenting over 100 performances including high-drama, low-comedy, dance, cabaret, live film, spoken word, family entertainment - and much much more. Venue: Queen’s Theatre, The Baptist Hall, St Anne’s Arts & Community Centre Tickets: £5 (£3) each, Frequent Fringers £15 (for 6 shows) As with other Fringe Festivals, TheatreFest is not curated – companies are chosen by open draw. There’s a great breadth of talent and experience on show. Community companies and professional companies just starting out share venues with performers of many years’ experience, many of whom regularly play Edinburgh and other national and international festivals and venues. Fringe TheatreFest has a well-deserved reputation as an exceptionally friendly festival. A lot of animated chat and socialising surrounds the serious business of seeing shows. Because of this, companies just love coming back year on year. So there will be faces familiar to regular Fringe TheatreFest-goers as *Content correct at time of print. line up subject to change.
well as a raft of companies totally new to North Devon. Most performances take place in three venues within the Queen’s Theatre, plus the Baptist Hall in Boutport Street and St Anne’s Arts & Community Centre in Church Walk. But also look out for an intimate performance for two in the streets of Barnstaple. Once again, ticket prices have been kept the same and this includes the Frequent Fringer ticket: for £15 you can see any six shows, that’s just £2.50 a time. For full details visit www.theatrefest.co.uk or pick up a TheatreFest brochure (available from April).

Written by J M Barrie, this new version is by Trevor Nunn & John Caird
A creative interpretation of Barrie’s classic tale, devised from workshops and theatre skills, built from the imagination and energy of the young people performing in this production. Sir James Barrie gave the copyright of Peter Pan to the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London in 1929, later confirmed in his will when he died in 1937. The Hospital has continued to benefit from this generous gift ever since. This adaptation was written with kind permission of the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London. This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd.
