Letter From Our President As the new President and CEO, I would like to introduce you to the new and compelling Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce. Our Chamber enters its 93rd year of existence, and the 2015 year promises to be one of the most exciting in our history! We are committed to an ambitious scope of work that is solely devoted to delivering value to the member. In defiance of challenges, the Chamber stands as a beacon of light and hope for all businesspersons in the region. By working together, we will strengthen our cohesiveness and empower your voice. You will find new and impassioned staff at the CRCC. You will find many new and renewed resources available to you to strengthen, develop, protect and grow your business. We will keep you informed of every council, committee or event connected with the Chamber, designed to enhance your opportunities for business interaction and growth. You will be amazed at the variety of opportunities available and the willingness of the staff to assist you in any way possible. You will meet zealous volunteer committee and board members who oversee the activities at our chamber and work with dedication in the community to foster relationships and promote business synergies. And, you will find an organization that works for you and champions your causes with voices to be heard by city hall, county officials, and even in Tallahassee. I challenge you to make time to become involved in the work of at least one committee at CRCC – or, at least take the time to sit in on the meetings of a working committee. The important issues addressed by committees guide the Board in its process of decision-making for the CRCC. Committee work is where relationships are forged and where you will realize the most traction for elevating your business profile. The logical progression of your engagement will not only enhance your success; it will likely evolve into a leadership role, AND you may find yourself nominated to Board service and governance on a near horizon! I ask three things of you: 1) ENGAGE and BE INVOLVED! You MUST make time to work on your business rather than in your business. Your reach and influence grows every time you participate. You learn more and meet more people every time you attend a meeting or an event. [Strategizing from your recliner at home yields predictable results!] We will inform and encourage you to participate. 2) Adopt a “Pay It Forward” mentality – assist a business colleague by getting them introduced to the opportunity and momentum of the Chamber [they will thank you for getting them out of their recliner!]; and, 3) ABC – Always Buy Chamber – patronize other Chamber members. By prioritizing commerce with folks in our own communities, we keep our spending local and thereby enrich our own vendors and service providers. We become even more effective when we work together to unite more and more businesses. Thank you for your investment in the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce. Your return on this investment is certain to be new contacts and relationships, resources for problem solving and education, and tools to help expand your reach and grow your business. Your participation and engagement are key! I look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming meetings or events. Sincerely, Carol A. Hague President and CEO

If Your Marketing & Sales Results Seem Weak... The Problem May Reside in Your PR PR is the lubricant that greases a corporation’s marketing wheels. Without it marketing campaigns often grind and produce lackluster results. Effective Public Relations makes your business well thought of and better known; it makes your company, your products, and your services all look good without the sales pitch. That means many more prospects being familiar and trusting of what you say and offer. That means many more potential sales. Start a PR campaign and give your sales and marketing teams a break by laying the groundwork for them to be more effective. Or you can continue doing what you’re doing and “hope for the best”.

A JoTo PR Campaign will: • Make Your Company More Visible, Known and Respected • Drive in More prospects through Well-Received Marketing • Get More Sales through a Trusted Sales Team

Letter From Our Board Chairman At the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce we make your business our business. As we celebrate Clearwater’s centennial birthday, we are proud that the Clearwater Regional Chamber has been a vital part of the growth and development of Pinellas County and the Tampa Bay region for over 93 years. The Chamber is an indelible part of the fabric of this region and is the leading voice for business in Tampa Bay. This year we are focused on three priorities: economic development, public policy and government affairs, and tourism. We are launching a new economic development consortium to bring together private sector leaders and innovators to identify and attract new job creation and growth in Pinellas County. This economic development group will work with local and state government to identify private sector investment opportunities in our region and propose incentives and facilitate collaboration to stimulate economic growth. It is important for the Chamber to augment and assist the economic development efforts of our local and state governments. The Clearwater Regional Chamber is the leading voice of business in our community on the crucial issues related to public policy and government affairs. On tourism Clearwater is unique in the Tampa Bay region. Clearwater is the only large City (with a population over 110,000) that has the fortune of having a world class Beach within its City limits. Clearwater Beach attracts more than 1 million visitors each year thanks to the tireless efforts of our hoteliers, hospitality industry, and elected officials (not to mention a little help from a dolphin named Winter and her friend Hope at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium). Promoting tourism in Clearwater is an essential element of the economic future of Pinellas County and all of Tampa Bay. I ask you to consider what the Chamber can do for you and your business. This is the year of empowerment of our members and our volunteers. Your involvement with the Chamber is what you make of it; the possibilities are endless. Just ask the AchieveHers; the Chamber’s women in business group, that has achieved unmatched success and recognition. In just a few short years the AchieveHers have made a lasting contribution to the Chamber and the community. At the same time, the Clearwater Young Professionals are enthusiastically engaging our future generation of community leaders. The time is now to get involved, stand up, join the Chamber, and make a difference in our community. We understand that with hard work, here you can be something; this is the place to build a business, this is the place to build a home. What we are working for, in the end, is each other. Will you join us and continue the Chamber’s legacy of empowering the business community? The opportunities are endless. Brian Aungst, Jr. Chairman of the Board Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen

Twitter Chat

Leave it to our Twitter Pro Nancy Foster, Clearwater Regional Chamber’s social media consultant - on June 30 from 2 – 2:30 pm, she hosted #ClearwaterChat, our first tweet chat, on Family Travel. It was one of the first tourism related tweet chats created and led our area. Some might ask – what is a Tweet Chat? Succinctly, it is where the world comes to chat. The numbers were astonishing. We reached 186,287 people with 991,725 impressions. ClearwaterChat and @ClearwaterArea were both trending at one time. Member participation was also remarkable: Sandpearl Resort Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival Sunset Vistas Beachfront Ruth Eckerd Hall Hilton Clearwater Beach Clearwater Marine Aquarium Sheraton Sand Key Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club Visit St. Pete/Clearwater Capitol Theatre City of Clearwater Cooters Pier 60 Concessions Ann Farrell/Pink A Marketing So why participate in this social media platform? Twitter chats provide an opportunity to network, grow your contacts, gain knowledge and get your message out to all participants on a topic of shared interest. Due to the overwhelming success of CRCC’s first tweet-chat, Nancy will host periodic chats on other topics such as meetings, weddings, fall travel, large special events, shopping etc. Following are the analytics on this 30 minute tweet chat.

Founded in 1952 by Earle Lokey, Lokey Motor Company is one of the few remaining family-owned and operated dealerships in the area. Mr. Lokey bought property in the middle of orange groves back in 1958. He proudly opened Lokey Oldsmobile on Gulf to Bay Boulevard. You may have even seen a Piper airplane for sale among the Sunbeams. One salesman, four service technicians and Mr. Lokey proudly ran what has become today’s Lokey Motor Company. 1965 marked the beginning of Mercedes Benz of North America and Lokey became the first franchise acquired in the State of Florida. In a much-to-do fanfare with the then current mayor of Clearwater, Everett Hougan, a new facility breaks ground in 1969 on Gulf to Bay Boulevard. As the staff increases the values stay the same. The mission statement was adopted and rings true today. “To provide the Tampa Bay community with the highest quality in automotive sales, service and financing. Ensuring long term profitability through customer satisfaction and customer satisfaction through employee satisfaction” Mr. Lokey’s son, Philip, worked his way to sales manager in 1979. The reputation of the family has withstood in the ever-changing times. They moved to the current location 1n 1984, 19820 US Highway 19 N, Clearwater, and in 2011 transformed into the newest state-of-the art showroom you know today as Autohaus. This June the Mercedes-Benz dealership celebrated 50 years of being a family owned, integrity driven business. In 1990 Mr. Lokey acquired the Infiniti franchise, and opened its doors right next to the Autohaus. In 2013 it was transformed in to the beautiful showroom you see today. This year marks 25 remarkable years of Infiniti excellence here in Clearwater. President of Lokey Motor Company today, Mr. Philip Lokey, remains true to the mission statement. He took over the management in 1986 before the passing of his father. To date, Lokey Motor Company has over 100 employees. They all carry on the traditions started in 1952. From the complimentary loaner vehicles, personal vehicle delivery, valet service and their popular refer-afriend program, Lokey Motor Company has remained a thriving dealership with the principals of the past 60 plus years. You may want to even get a manicure while waiting in the service lounge. When it comes to excellent service, a friendly atmosphere and recognized leaders in the industry, Lokey Motor Company is it! They continue to commit themselves and infuse stability to our community. From the owner and throughout the entire staff, the sentiment is…. “we are ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen.”

Leading in the industry, Suncoast Hospice established one of the country’s first integrative medicine clinics for our hospice patients and became the first hospice in Florida to pilot the POLST program (physician orders for life-sustaining treatment). We also have developed new partnerships including palliative care consult and hospice care programs with several hospitals and long-term care facilities, an advance care planning program with Diagnostic Clinic Medical Group as well as a first-in-this-area HIV medical home with Pinellas Care Clinic. Suncoast Hospice and many of the other Empath Health members use expert interdisciplinary teams to foster comfort, hope and dignity for every patient, family and caregiver. Because illnesses are not purely physical, we provide holistic care. Services may include medical treatment and therapies for pain and symptom relief along with education and support for resolving issues of stress including emotional, spiritual, social, caregiving, decision making and grief. We value our community’s trust and encourage everyone to turn to Empath Health sooner in their journeys. People are not giving up control, hope or faith by seeking our care. A place of hope and new beginnings

Sometimes referred to by new supporters as “the best-kept secret in Clearwater,” Kimberly Home is poised to let the secret out. The pregnancy resource center was founded in 1983, as a group of concerned citizens saw the lack of resources to help pregnant women who were in need of material, social, and emotional support. What began as a small center offering counseling and baby necessities has grown exponentially to include a full continuum of services for pregnant and parenting women and their families.

The Kimberly Home now offers mentoring and emotional support; an “Earn While You Learn” program in which clients complete lessons and classes in a wide variety of pregnancy, parenting and life skills topics, earning points to use toward material items; baby and maternity clothes, diapers, formula, cribs, strollers, and all manner of baby items; pregnancy testing and ultrasound services; a home-visitation program for women who are unable to come to the center; a transitional housing program for women and their children who would otherwise face homelessness; a childcare center serving up to 30 infants and toddlers ages 2 months to 3 years; and a licensed adoption agency. Kimberly Home also operates two Thrift Shoppes in Clearwater and Dunedin, where the community can lend their support by donating gently used items or shopping for deals for themselves. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to fund Kimberly Home’s programs. Clients can also redeem their points for needed items through the Thrift Shoppes, and furniture and housewares from the stores have helped to furnish the housing units. In addition to the Thrift Shoppes, Kimberly Home operates thanks to the generosity of individuals, churches, and businesses, as well as grants from charitable foundations and the City of Clearwater. The latter partnership, in particular, has allowed this once-tiny organization to grow into a true force for good in our community, which not only improves the lives of women and children in need but also the surrounding neighborhood. While some may consider Kimberly Home the “best-kept secret,” it’s no secret at all among our clients, the majority of whom are referred by other women who have found help and hope here. As one client, Melanie, recently stated, “I am so thankful for Kimberly Home, and all of the staff, volunteers and those who support this wonderful ministry. Truly, without this opportunity, I don’t know where my daughter and I would be. I have learned how to be responsible and self-sufficient. I’ve learned the importance of family first and how wonderful routine is. I will never be able to put into words how much the Kimberly Home means to us.” For our staff and volunteers, this is truly what it’s about—being part of a place where a struggling new mom finds the compassion, support, and resources she needs to work toward a brighter future for herself and her baby. For more information please visit our website at www.kimberlyhome.org or call 727-443-0471.

Keeping Mom and Dad out of the Nursing Home Alex Chamberlain shares with you three “Life Hacks” that could help prevent Mom or Dad from going into a Nursing Home. For seniors who wish to remain in their homes, here are three ‘life-hacks’ — simple tools and tips that you can use to help your Mom and Dad with so they can “age in place.” 1. Age proof your parents home today - Don’t wait until they fall down, slip in the tub or trip over an extension cord. We all need to declutter from time to time, but it’s especially important as your parents get older. Take some time today and go through our falls prevention checklist or schedule a fall risk assessment. 2. Bring what your parents need to their home - There’s more and more convenient services available to help in daily life. Have you ever considered grocery delivery or pickup services? Internet shopping, online bill pay and other great services can make life easier. At-home Fitness is one of our favorite resources, bringing personal trainers specialized in older adults right to your parents’ home. We’ll share specific resources from time to time, so don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter! 3. Use technology to help your parents manage their medications - Medication errors can be fatal, or at least fatal to your parents’ health and quality of life. There are numerous apps to provide reminders, electronic pill boxes (plus timers, watches and more), and drug information apps and websites. Alex Chamberlain of EasyLiving and Aging Wisely is here to help with solutions to any of the concerns addressed above.
