spectacular Beauty Pageant mesmerises all May Queen Ball at RSI Army Club and Secunderabad Club comes alive in the presence of ravishing beauties, to the tune of scintillating music and foot tapping dance numbers, reports Jydip Mukherji

ike every year we look forward to the All Fools Day on 1st April, come the month of May and May Queen Ball is an integral part of it across the globe. An age old legacy inherited from the British rule, Indian defense forces too stretch their arms to the first day of May and celebrate spring fertility festival to honor goddess Spring. This year too like previous years as the merry month of may set in, putting aside the hot, sultry whether defense officers, their kith and kin gathered for the beauty pageant at Rajendra Singhji Institute (RSI) in Bolaram on 14th May’11. A similar May Queen Ball was held at the Secunderabad Club, Vikrampuri too in the presence of a massive crowd on 22nd May’11. Though the event has evolved over the years into a cultural extravaganza including parties, sing-along, and one of the most awaited and indeed colorful evening. This year like last few years the administration and the organisers went a step further and held a combined May Queen and May Prince event. The boys didn’t have to tell us that they were upbeat and excited about being a part of the event — their enthusiasm said it all! Having undergone training sessions prior to the event, the contestants gave heartwarming performances at the beauty pageant. It just wasn’t only a sparkling evening full of anxiety metro

and excitement, but culmination of a fruitful journey for the contestants. RSI May Queen 2011 turned out to be a wonderful learning experience for all the participants. Organised strictly in the true spirit of a beauty pageant, the training sessions that preceded the event transformed all the smart girls of the forces to glamorous elegant princesses. Boys and girls in the age group 16 to 25 years among unmarried and upto 30 years of age among the married men and women were eligible to participate. They were given orientation on walking the ramp, body posture, stage presence, costumes, confidence, how to interact with the audience, hair styling and makeup. The beauty pageant at RSI was held to appreciate the unparalleled beauty and also to recognise the young elegant and graceful ladies. A team of choreographers and designers made sure that all the pretty contestants stood out among others. Using their imagination and flair to create different looks and putting a unique outfit together proved to the advantage of the contestants. An esteemed panel of judges including fashion designer Shravan Kumar Ramaswamy, Geeta Golla, Ex CEO Sakshi newspaper and Laila K Khan fashion stylist chose eight finalist. After the Ethnic Wear, Sporty Wear and Ball Gown round the contestants were subjected to a question answer
