A SINGLE GOAL

ISABELLA

IS IN CONTROL OF HER HEALTH 4

Now 15 years old, Isabella is a seasoned manager of her conditions. She’s been in control of her health since the age of 10, and lives an active life that includes skiing, playing tennis on her high school team, and spending time with her friends and family.

Isabella appreciates that doctors at Children’s Colorado involved her, as well as her parents, in learning about how to treat and manage her diabetes. “They showed me what I needed to do to take control of my health and gave me a better understanding of how to eat,” said Isabella, who uses an insulin pump to test her blood sugar level multiple times each day. “They show that they care.”

Celiac disease is the most frustrating condition for Isabella to manage, because she can’t eat what she wants.

Sticking to a gluten-free diet is tough, but she doesn’t let her conditions define her plans for the future. She wants to travel the world as a fashion buyer, to bring back styles from places like China, France, and Italy.

Isabella became a Children’s Colorado ambassador for the opportunity to fundraise and to teach other kids how to manage and deal with diabetes and celiac disease. “I can let them know they’re not alone,” she said.

Each year, Children’s Colorado caregivers nominate hospital patients to serve as ambassadors in the community. These amazing kids and their families share stories of hope and perseverance through interviews, presentations, and events supporting Children’s Colorado.

MEET ISABELLA

When Isabella was 7 years old, she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. When she was 8 years old, she was also diagnosed with celiac disease. Her care team at Children’s Hospital Colorado is supporting Isabella as she learns to manage her conditions and dream of a future unhindered by her diagnoses.

SPECIAL EVENTS Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation organizes a variety of events for our community of supporters, including our signature events. We also host smaller events throughout the year, including luncheons, fashion shows, sporting events and more.

More than 120 events supported the hospital in 2013, contributing over $7.7 million for patients and families.

CHILDREN’S GALA One of Denver’s premier black tie fundraising events. Longtime Children’s Colorado supporters Molly Broeren and Bill Mosher put their stamp on Children’s Gala in 2013 by enlisting Colorado’s own OneRepublic to headline the event.

CORPORATE GIVING CAMPAIGNS Through outright philanthropy, event sponsorship, cause marketing programs and employee giving, support from community corporations helps the hospital continue to provide the highest quality care to patients and families.

HYUNDAI HOPE ON WHEELS Hyundai granted Children’s Colorado physicianscientists $250,000 toward cancer research.

CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK HOSPITALS Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals raise funds and awareness for children’s hospitals throughout North America.

Activities like an annual radiothon and a wide range of events with corporate partners helped raise more than $4.4 million for Children’s Colorado in 2013.

KOHL’S DAY OF FUN Kohl’s granted more than $282,000 for the Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Campaign.

INTRODUCING THE MEDICAL STAFF CAMPAIGN COUNCIL As stakeholders in Children’s Hospital Colorado, the Medical Staff Campaign Council, formed in 2013, is a group of children’s health leaders who wholeheartedly believe in philanthropy to fuel the best care, innovative preventions and breakthroughs that improve children’s health.

DONOR RECOGNITION assuring excellence in pediatric healthcare.

In 2013, local members contributed nearly $19 million to Children’s Colorado.

A generous philanthropist, Mr. Gates believed in transformational giving as an investment in a community and a cause. He was a longtime supporter of the hospital, and until his death in 2005 he served as honorary chair of The Imagine the Miracles Campaign for The Children’s Hospital.

Over the years, the entire Gates family has given generously of both their time and treasure.

Mae Boettcher’s passion and generous philanthropic support for Children’s Colorado stemmed from her service on Children’s Colorado’s Board of Directors from 1951 until 1976. Like Mae Boettcher, Society donors have committed to Children’s Colorado as the leader in providing the best healthcare for children in our community.

In 1995, Children’s Colorado joined leading pediatric hospitals across North America to form Children’s Circle of Care (CCC). By recognizing individuals, family foundations and private corporations giving $10,000 or more annually, CCC highlights the role of philanthropy in

CHILDREN’S CIRCLE OF CHAMPIONS AND CHILDREN’S CIRCLE OF LEADERSHIP The mission of Children’s Circles of Champions and Leadership is to advance community giving and philanthropy by engaging and recognizing our leading associations, corporate and foundation donors. All gifts made through these recognition societies support patient care, education, research and advocacy at Children’s Colorado.

ANNUAL GIVING: CHILDREN’S CIRCLES OF HOPE, PROMISE, AND COURAGE Annual giving is essential to any nonprofit organization. Children’s Colorado relies upon the generosity of those who support the hospital year after year.

TAMMEN SOCIETY Harry and Agnes Reid Tammen were among Children’s Colorado’s earliest and most important philanthropic supporters. The Tammens used much of their wealth in 1924 to establish the Tammen Trust to help Children’s Colorado provide health care for children whose families could not afford to pay. The Tammen Society honors individuals who have thoughtfully provided for Children’s Colorado through a bequest, life-income or other planned gift.
