A note from the Director…

Caren’s Column Hello SSS Participants! I hope you all had a great fall semester! The SSS staff is working hard during your break to plan a successful spring semester. There are a lot of changes that will be implemented for you this spring and things that we will bring back. What’s new? Here are a few things…

Our First FOCUS …most of them will be graduating.

-‐

We will be having cohort reunions beginning the week of Jan. 27, where you will have the opportunity to reconnect with the group of students that you came in with during FOCUS or the fall semester.

-‐

April 24, we will have our first Academic Success Recognition, where we will be recognizing our graduates as well as you all for your academic successes.

Please continue to read your email for more updates. I look forward to seeing you this New Year…

With the semester at a close, it is a good time to take advantage of the down time and take inventory of what you learned this p ast semester. Yes, remember what you learned in your courses, but with equal value take a look at what you learned about yourself and who you are becoming. The purpose of having a college experience is more than what your GPA reflects at the end of a semester. The purpose also accounts for h ow you are developing as a human. Below are three questions to think about as you bring this semester to a close: -‐What did you learn about how you handle stress? -‐Did any of your classes change how you view others? -‐What piece of knowledge made you grow into a more mature person this past semester? Each of these questions deserves pause and reflection. Allow yourself to be critical, but remember to praise yourself as you learn from criticism. Being able to look back with perspective is a gift you can give yourself.
