This spring, the Bloomin’ Festival features an exciting, expanded array of plants that are particularly suited to Chicago growing conditions. A marketplace offers baked goods, organic produce, pottery, and tool sharpening.

Ferns...............................................................p. 25

Billed as the Midwest’s premier plant sale, our event showcases more than 25,000 annuals, ferns, fruit and vegetable plants, geraniums, herbs, native wildflowers, ornamental grasses, perennials, roses, dahlias, shade perennials, shrubs, and vines. In consultation with Chicago Botanic Garden horticulturists, our plant sale committee has carefully selected the very best varieties to sell, whether new on the market or tried and true. Look for some of the latest Chicagoland Grows® offerings in baptisia, echinacea, polygonatum, and veronica. Stachys officinalis ‘Pink Cotton Candy’ is a “must have,” according to Richard Hawke, the Garden’s plant evaluation manager. We select sale vendors as carefully as we select the plants. A full listing of vendors, along with their offerings, appears inside this publication.

Shrubs and Trees............................................p. 36

Garden staff, members of the Woman’s Board, master gardeners, and volunteers will be on hand for the duration of the sale to advise and consult with guests. Horticulturists will give gardening demonstrations and share tips to help launch your planting efforts. Special thanks go to Bloomin’ Festival Chair Kim Visokey and Vice Chair Nancy Kurz for their amazing and energetic leadership. We applaud Manager of Plant Sales and Flower Shows Stephanie Lindemann and her assistant, Jillian Jablonski, for their vitality, dedication, and knowledge. The Garden staff was invaluable to our plant selection committee. We are so grateful to the many volunteers for their generous assistance and to Manager of Volunteer Services Judy Cashen, who organizes this effort so efficiently. Finally, kudos to Director of Visitor Events & Programs Jodi Zombolo and her staff for their creative efforts to make this event enjoyable and special for adults and children. We thank you for shopping with us, and hope you enjoy your time at Bloomin’ Festival 2012. As always, proceeds will support the Garden’s mission to promote the enjoyment, understanding, and conservation of plants and the natural world. Catherine C. Kirby President of the Woman’s Board
