Moglia Named Head Football Coach • Joe Moglia, former head coach of the United Football League’s Omaha Nighthawks, was hired as the head football coach at Coastal Carolina University on Dec. 20, 2011. Moglia, who begins his 20th year working in football in the 2012 season, is also chairman of the board for TD Ameritrade, a position he has held since 2008. From 2009-10 Moglia served as executive advisor to the head football coach at the University of Nebraska in preparation for achieving his original lifelong pursuit, being a collegiate head football coach. In 2010, Cornhusker football student-athletes elected Moglia to receive Nebraska’s prestigious U.S. Grant Sharp Admiral’s Trophy for Leadership and Service. Before entering the business world, Moglia was a football coach for 16 years. He won two Ivy League championships as defensive coordinator at Dartmouth (1982-83), set defensive and special teams records at Lafayette (1978-80) and turned around two high school programs.

VisitMyrtleBeach.com/Coastal Carolina to host 2013-15 Big South Basketball Tournaments • Big South Conference Commissioner Kyle B. Kallander announced that VisitMyrtleBeach.com will be the new title sponsor of the Big South Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships for the next three years, which will be held in Coastal Carolina University’s new 3,200-seat on-campus Student Recreation and Convocation Center. The VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championships will be a combined tournament for the seventh time in league history and the first same-site event since 2002 when the conference staged its basketball postseason in Roanoke, Va. Coastal Carolina is hosting the full tournament for the first time; CCU previously held the men’s semifinals and finals in 2010 and 2011. In addition to the title sponsorship, the conference also announced that the combined tournament will now feature all Big South men’s and women’s basketball teams -- 23 in total. The 12 men’s teams and 11 women’s programs will play 21 games over a six-day stretch from Tuesday, March 5 through Sunday, March 10, 2013.

Forman Named Head Volleyball Coach • Jozsef Forman, former associate head coach at Auburn University, was named the sixth head volleyball coach in Chanticleer history. Forman helped take the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament for the first time after recording a program-best 21 wins.

Hewitt Named Head Women’s Tennis Coach

• Catherine Hewitt, a Conway native and former standout on the University of South Carolina women’s tennis team, was named the second head women’s tennis coach in Coastal Carolina history. Hewitt is a member of the Professional Tennis Registry and holds professional level certification through the United States Professional Tennis Association.

Henderson and Soderberg Earn NCAA At-Large Bids

• Women’s golf team member Brittany Henderson received an at-large bid to compete in the NCAA Women’s Golf Central Regional. She set the Big South Championship all-time low round score with a 68 on the second day and the tournament’s all-time 54-hole score with a 2-under 241. Henderson led Coastal to four top-10 finishes, including a regular season-best fourth-place finish at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. • Men’s golf team member Sebastian Soderberg earned an individual at-large berth to the 2012 NCAA Men’s Golf Athens Regional. It marked the 13th consecutive year Coastal Carolina has been represented in the NCAA postseason. In 2011-12, he had three top-five finishes, including medalist honors at the Furman Intercollegiate, and had a total of five top-20 finishes in 11 events.

Flanagan Finishes 16th at NCAA Championships • Men’s track and field javelin thrower Jason Flanagan capped his prestigious collegiate career with Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Des Moines, Iowa. Flanagan threw for 68.70m (225-04) on his second attempt of the day to place 16th.
