Senior quarterback Jon Resch threw a 30yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Casey Paris with 2:40 left leading Coast Guard to a 31-27 win over Westfield State. Resch was 24 of 42 for 210 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions while Paris, celebrated his CASEY birthday by leading the PA R I S Bears with eight receptions for 106 yards and the touchdown. Sophomore Jake Wawrzyniak, who was injured on the opening series last week, was cleared to play on Saturday morning and led the Bears with 32 carries for 108 yards and a pair of touchdown while also adding six receptions for 28 yards in the win. Coast Guard finished with 381 yards of total offense, 238 passing while Westfield had 257 total yards, 166 passing. The Owls opened a 21-10 lead just 19 seconds into the third quarter before the Coast Guard defense got the Bears back in the game as following a punt, junior Evan Rothfeld returned an interception 44 yards to the Westfield 30-yard line and on the first play, Resch threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Nick Fredericksen with 10:08 left in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 21-17. It was Fredericksen's first career touchdown. The Bears defense got the ball back again as sophomore Aaron Black forced a fumble and senior John Manganiello recovered at the Westfield 45-yard line. Coast Guard used a trick play, a 28-yard pass from sophomore Collis Brown to Fredericksen and a late hit on the play gave the Bears a first-and-goal. Wawrzyniak capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown as the Bears regained the lead 24-21 with 6:52 left in the third quarter. Senior Dante Adams had and interception in the end zone with 12:30 left as Coast Guard maintained the lead. Trainque's five-yard touchdown with 7:44 left in the game gave the Owls a 27-24 lead. Resch then led the Bears on a 12-play, 72-yard drive capped on a 24-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Casey Paris with 2:40 left. Resch converted three straight third downs including a third-and-nine on the eventual game winner to Paris.

Freshman Tyler Henning kicked a 27yard field goal in overtime as Coast Guard beat Worcester State 3128. Worcester State junior Derek Muccini missed a TYLER 35-yard field goal on the HENNING Lancers overtime possession before Henning's winning kick. It was Coast Guard's first win in overtime since 1997 when the Bears won a pair of overtime games beating RPI 22-16 and Springfield 2620. The Bears were 0-4 in OT since then with two losses in OT and two more in double overtime. The Bears, who had a streak of seven straight losses in games decided by seven points or less, dating back to last season, won a pair of close games in backto-back weeks. Coast Guard senior quarterback Jon Resch ran for three touchdowns including a 5-yard run with 33 seconds left in regulation to tie the game 28-28. Resch was 17 of 35 for 306 yards while also throwing for a touchdown. Resch set the single-season school records for yards (2,200) and completions (185) in the win. He also eclipsed the 4,000 yard mark for his career and now has 4,255 passing yards. Senior Pat Meggers led the Bears with six receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown as Coast Guard finished with 405 total yards. Worcester State senior quarterback Corey Spencer was 37 of 59 for 416 yards with three touchdowns and a pair of interceptions while junior AJ Scerra was outstanding with a school-record 17 receptions for 184 yards and a touchdown as the Lancers finished with 524 yards. The Bears tied the game by going 81 yards in just 1:55 as Resch scored a 5-yard touchdown run, his third rushing touchdown of the game, to tie the game 28-28 with 33 seconds left. Resch hit senior tight end Casey Paris with a 27-yard pass down to the 5-yard line to set up the tying touchdown. Coast Guard head coach Bill George won his 45th game at Coast Guard tying Nels Nitchman (1946-'58) for second all-time at the Academy. Score By Quarters Coast Guard Worcester State
