Maca Bolivian MACA not only possesses aphrodisiacal and stimulating qualities, it also nourishes, invigorates, fertilizes and heals diseases. This plant, with its white flowers, is considered to be eternal like the Altiplano. Extracts, syrups, pills and flour are obtained from its root or tuber. For the longest time, it was the Incas who gave it diverse uses such as medicine and as an extraordinary food supplement because of its multiple properties. In Bolivia, MACA is produced in elevated regions at an altitude of approximately 4,500 meters above sea level in the departments of La Paz, Oruro and Potosí. In this way, this plant is adapted to the very cold ecological conditions which are characterized for having average temperatures of 4°C and 7°C, high solar radiation, frequent frosts, strong winds and acid soils. Places where other crops could not thrive. MACA rejuvenates the endocrine system in men and women. It is also known as a powerful energizer and fertilizer. It has, at the same time, therapeutic properties for respiratory illnesses as well as rheumatic and hypertension problems. Body conditions such as fertility, frigidness and sexual impotence are improved with the essential amino acids that MACA has. In the varied chemical composition that MACA has we find the presence of proteins, fats, calcium, cellulose, starches, phosphorus, iodine, iron and vitamins B and C. Bolivian MACA is being exported to countries such as Canada, Switzerland and Japan because of the natural and medicinal qualities it possesses.
