In just over twenty years time, in fact, the Verbano Express Association succeeded in creating a historical and cultural centre around the Luino train station, made up of a solid community of enthusiasts that share a common passion for trains and railways. Having assumed the responsibility for curating a significant part of the local historical heritage and improving its visibility for enthusiasts as well as the general public, the museum's environment is extremely lively and active. The structure even regularly hosts numerous original events and initiatives, like the historical journeys that the association organizes to nearby Switzerland. A couple of years ago, for example, visitors had the opportunity to enjoy a trip on a train towed by the legendary 50 BR 3673. The passengers, who boarded the steam train at Arth Goldau (CH), were given the opportunity to enjoy a trip down the entire San Gottardo railway line. At the end of the journey, the locomotive remained in Luino as part of the Verbano Railroad Museum's collection, and will be ready to get back on the tracks whenever the next occasion presents itself. The various initiatives promoted to mark the Association's twentieth anniversary included the 'baptism' of an ETR 150 "Flirt" train, manufactured by the company Tilo, which now bears the name of "Valli del Luinese."
