COLUMBUS, WI An Almost Perfect Portrait of the Late 19th Century

Nestled among gently rolling hills, woodlands and the Crawfish River is Columbus, a community that presents an almost perfect portrait of the late 19th century with more than 200 century-old commercial and residential buildings

On June 16-17, Columbus will celebrate its many contributions to the Union effort during the Civil War as part of the nation’s multi-year observance of the war’s sesquicentennial with an event of historic proportions. The entire town will be transformed into what it was in 1864 when Columbus’ own James Lewis was Governor. The centerpiece of the weekend will be the annual Columbus Horse & Carriage Festival competition. Imagine drivers in period clothes, beautiful horses and restored historic carriages. You needn’t be a Civil War buff to enjoy this event, but there’s every chance you will walk away wanting to hear more stories. ★ Civil War Encampment and Reenactment ★ Lunch and Breakfast with Abe Lincoln ★ Civil War Parade ★ Tours of Historic Buildings ★ Civil War Era Cotillion and Fashion Show ★ Columbus Horse and Carriage Festival ★ Taste of Columbus Dinner at Fireman’s Park Pavilion When visiting Columbus, make a point to stop in the state’s largest antique mall, or stroll through one of the area’s horse and carriage specialty shops. Don’t leave town without dining at one of our supper clubs or enjoying an artisan beer at our local microbrewery. Columbus is in the southeast corner of Columbia County, located on five major highway corridors, Highways 151, 16, 60, 73 and 89. We’re also one of the few communities in Wisconsin offering Amtrak service. In other words, we’re an easy destination to get to and enjoy.

We love to live in the past.
