Online Professional Development Background of the Nevada Pathway Project The Nevada Pathway Project grew out of the Nevada Educational Technology Plan and statewide concern about student engagement and achievement. Stakeholders recognized that it is crucial that Nevada’s students are prepared for the demands of the 21st century. Nevada’s students are dispersed across 109,826 square miles, live in a variety of urban and rural areas, and can benefit from the links to the peers, experts, and the world through technology. Increased education technology, appropriately used in classrooms, is critical for meeting these needs. Nevada students deserve to use technology as they work towards academic achievement, develop career aspirations, and build cultural awareness. Nevada students must be prepared to compete in a global economy in which technology is an essential tool for success. Participating teachers and administrators took part in a two-year professional development program, funded through Federal ARRA, focused on recognizing and addressing the needs of 21st century students through the framework of the revised Nevada Educational Technology Standards, which align to the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S).

All of the professional development took place in an online environment. The modules are archived for future professional development needs across the state. To facilitate the integration of educational technology and implementation of strategies learned, each participating teacher was provided a minimum set of technology tools, such as student laptops and iPod touches. Read more… Rigorous professional development pushed teachers outside of their comfort zone and stretched them into transforming their practice. Many teachers felt this experience provided them with the opportunity to become facilitators of learning which will benefit their students for years to come. Positive Results     

The Connected Teacher Course Objectives 1. Create and maintain a professional online presence (website, blog, etc.) 2.
