AN OPEN LETTER FROM HUTCH So the curtain comes down on my career. This will be the last time I walk out onto Central Coast Stadium as a player, captain, teammate and a brother to all my friends in the famous yellow shirt. The heartache or the happiness, the anger, the joy of playing for the Mariners will be what I will treasure for a long time. Memories, famous wins, bad losses, amazing comebacks – if you can talk about it the Mariners have been involved in it. But what I will miss most of all are the friendships, the boys and the change room (and arguing with refs a bit). Now, as for the people involved with the club, the people who work so hard behind the scenes that the supporters don’t see. From the office staff, to the volunteers, you have all been wonderful to me, it’s the small things you do that make our jobs so much easier. From Pat ‘The Door Man’ giving me a cheeky little treat as I walk into the change room or Sharon sneaking me a few extra tickets for the team. Everyone involved should give your self a massive pat on the back and from the bottom of my heart my love for you will never stop. To the fans, the haters, the followers and the ones that care and support me. Without haters I cannot drive harder for success. Without the care and support to pick me up on bad days I could have never bounced back. You all play your part. I have met some great people who care for me as a footballer and as a person. Our friendships will last long after my career has ended and the part I love the most about being a footballer for the Mariners is the smiling faces of all the kids. The high fives, the hugs, the talkers, non-talkers and the kids who told me they love me. That’s what football is all about. Once it's all done I want you all to know that your support will live with me forever. I know I will see you all at future games and I can't wait to celebrate another win at the stadium as either a coach/ supporter and hear the cannon go off. I also want to say thank you to the coaches and owners I have had over the ten seasons. You all played your

part in growing me as a footballer and as a person. Your time and dedication will not be forgotten. You know what you all mean to me so I am not going to go on and on but you all know what part you played. My family, the Hutchinsons and Macedos. Thanks for your love and support over the last 10 years. Kate, Kai and Mahli, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. The love, support, care, the pick me up talk and even the talk when you think you’re the coach – it has been amazing. Support makes me strong and gives me the drive to do the best for my family. Season 10 hasn't been one to remember for the Mariners and it's not what I really wanted as my last season but I know my team mates gave it their all. It's been a very tough season, maybe the hardest out of the 10 but I believe it is onwards and upwards for this club. The yellow and navy will always have its challenges but with the help of you, the fans, we can all move forward together. I believe that with people like Monty and Rocket, this club will excel. They will drive the culture and the standards of this great club. The likes of Liam Rose, Anthony Kalik, Michael Neill, Tom Slater and co. will become household names on the coast and will strive to drive us back where we belong. Believe, stay strong and always love and support the famous yellow strip of the Central Coast Mariners. Thank you everyone and love you all. John Hutchinson

#7 JOHN HUTCHINSON

#14 KEREM BULUT

BY DARCY O’LOGHLEN

In the tunnels of Central Coast Stadium are team portraits of each of the Central Coast Mariners Hyundai A-League squads from 2005/06 to 2014/15. Many huge names are pictured on those walls of the Fortress– among them Mile Jedinak, Mat Ryan, Trent Sainsbury, Mark Bosnich and John Aloisi. Those squads change from year to year, however the one constant from 2005 to 2015 has been a man named John Hutchinson. While a tough test awaits the Mariners today against the Western Sydney Wanderers, the match will also be an emotional one with our skipper, Hutch, fronting up for his last home game as a player at Central Coast Stadium.

BY DARCY O’LOGHLEN

Hutchinson RECORD Position Midfielder Date of Birth 29 December 1979 (35) Place of Birth Morwell, Victoria Height 183cm Weight 75kg Former Clubs Northern Spirit, Manly United, Chengdu Blades (loan)

Hutch has been a rock for the Mariners in defensive midfield and played a critical role in the club’s historic 2012/13 Hyundai A-League Championship season. At 35, he has continued his incredible work ethic for the yellow and navy this season, controlling the play going forward, ranking sixth in the league for total passes. It has been a long journey for Hutch who has been with the Mariners since day one when they took their first baby steps in the 2005 Oceania World Club Championship qualifier. Since that day he has held aloft the Championship trophy, claimed two Premiership Plates, featured in four AFC Champions League campaigns, as well as snagged the outright Hyundai A-League appearance record. After all this time with the Mariners, it’s also easy to forget Hutch’s football adventures outside of the Central Coast. His NSL debut as a 17 year old for Gippsland Falcons in 1997, came so long ago he faced up to Craig Foster and Andy Harper. Hutch also picked up international caps with Malta and squared off in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against a Sweden outfit, which featured PSG superstar: Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Wearing his heart on his sleeve, Hutch’s passionate approach to football and his love for the Mariners has seen him win many fans over on the Central Coast, while also becoming the player opposition supporters love to hate. Hutch will be sorely missed on the playing field however he will not be lost to the club as he begins his new career on the Mariners coaching staff.

Dynamic in attack and free scoring of late, Kerem Bulut has been Bulut Stats an instant revelation for the Western Sydney Wanderers after joining the struggling Asian Champions in January. Position Striker Bulut has only featured in a handful of matches for Western Date of Birth 3 February 1992 (23) Sydney – however he has immediately slotted into the Place of Birth Sydney, New South Wales Wanderers forward structure, running rampant with a number Height 186cm of high quality goals. The Mariners will need to be at their Weight 82kg defensive best if they are to repel the Wanderers new weapon Former Clubs FK Mladá Boleslav (Czech in attack. Republic), Akhisar Belediyespor (Turkey) and Karşıyaka S.K. (Turkey) Bulut made his Hyundai A-League debut in the pressure cooker of the Sydney Derby in February. Not one to let the occasion get to him, the 23 year old ignited a packed Pirtek Stadium with a second half brace that levelled scores briefly, before Sydney FC claimed a 4-3 win. Lightning struck twice a few weeks later, with Bulut claiming another double as he dismantled Brisbane Roar in Round 23 and quickly became the Wanderers leading scorer in the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season. Bulut’s CV includes stints in the Czech Republic and Turkey as well as an impressive record for Australia at youth level. At the 2010 AFC U-20 Championship, Bulut claimed the Golden Boot with the most goals and he also featured for the Young Socceroos at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.

MATCH DAY RUN DOWN ¡ Today’s Matchday sponsor is Wrigley, a subsidiary of Mars incorporated and a close brother to MASTERFOODS! The Central Coast Mariners would like to say a huge thank you to Wrigley who are responsible for products like Extra chewing gum, Starburst, Juicy Fruit and Hubba Bubba and have pledged their support behind the yellow and navy for our heated contest agaisnt the Western Sydney Wanderers. ¡ FOUNDATION MEMBERS WALK: Today we are also thanking the people who like Hutch, have been with us since day one and signed on for a Central Coast Mariners membership when it all began. Our foundation members have been invited to do a lap of honour pre-game as well as joining us on the pitch at half time for a photo to commemorate their support towards the club. ¡ The Central Coast Mariners are proudly supporting PCYC today who will be locking up Adam Kwasnik on Dane Dr pre-game as a part of their match day fundraising. PCYC Volunteers will be taking bucket collections throughout the day and if they reach their fundraising target of $1000 Kwas will be released at half time.

TOP FIVE HUTCH MOMENTS 1. GRAND FINAL VICTORY

3. HUTCH'S FAREWELL GOAL FOR MILE JEDINAK By his own admission, Hutch’s strike in 2009 on New Year’s Eve against Perth Glory stacks up as his personal favourite. Not only was it a bullet from all of 30 yards out, but it was also his send off present for outgoing compatriot Mile Jedinak who left the shores of the Central Coast shortly after that match to head to Europe.

The sweet taste of grand final victory was a long time coming for the Central Coast Mariners and beating the Western Sydney Wanderers to raise the trophy after the Hyundai A-League 2012/13 season was John Hutchinson. An amazing achievement by Graham Arnold and his team, but for Hutch, it was also an incredible individual feat to be there for the Mariners’ finest moment. Told by Arnold at the start of the season that he would struggle to see game time and given an option to depart the Central Coast, Hutch set out to prove ‘Arnie’ wrong and indeed he did.

4. CULTURE & CAMARADERIE

2. "YOU NEED TO LOSE THREE TO WIN ONE"

5. HUTCH, OUR SKIPPER

May 15 2006 vs. Sydney FC, February 24 2008 vs. Newcastle Jets and March 13 2011 vs. Brisbane Roar are three fixtures that sink the heart of Hutch – but he is the first to admit they are the three fixtures that are part of the reason he is the person he is today. After the Brisbane Roar defeat in a penalty shoot where they led 2-0 in extra time, Hutch broke down in an emotional heap and a big part of him thought the Mariners would never win a grand final. Hutch never gave up and his persistence was to be repaid in 2013.

There has never been a more fitting captaincy appointment in the Hyundai A-League than John Hutchinson and to see him lift the Champions Trophy with the armband wrapped around his bicep in 2013 was the club’s greatest reward and result of his leadership. Hutchinson will continue to lead this club off the field but his direction and tenacity on the pitch will be sorely missed.

The glue that has held this club together for so long, through the highs and the lows has been the culture. A contributor in building, maintaining and instilling the Mariners’ way of life into new players has been John Hutchinson. Moving on as a player at the end of the season but staying on with the Mariners in a coaching capacity, Hutch will be able to ensure his 10 years of hard work remains with the yellow and navy so that every player who dons the club colours will do so for the right reason. The team is greater than the individual.

Hutch A-League Stats: 225 appearances | 192 starts | 17,421 minutes played | 18 goals | 54 yellow cards | one red card | 11 international caps for Malta | #ThanksHutch
