UT Extension News BQA (Beef Quality Assurance) certification/recertification meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, in the upstairs meeting room at Henderson City Hall. CC Night at Diamond Jaxx Chester County Night at the Diamond Jaxx game will be on Thursday, May 13. Admission is $1.

Baked Potato Sale There will be a baked potato sale with toppings and dessert from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, at 638 White Ave. Toppings will include cheese, onion, bacon bits, chili or cheddar/broccoli soup. FHU Associates’ Bake Sale The Freed-Hardeman University Associates will have a bake sale from 8 a.m.noon on Saturday, May 15, on the lawn of Milan Sitka. In case of rain, it will be held across the street in front of Gano Dining Hall. All proceeds will go toward scholarships.

Sardis School Reunion There will be a reunion for anyone with ties to Sardis School on Saturday, May 15. A day of visiting will begin at 11 a.m. at the renovated school building. Food will be available all day. The Blue Moon Band will provide music and entertainment at 6 p.m. Bring memorabilia to share. Tenn. Little Miss Pageant Applications are being accepted for the Tennessee Little Miss Pageant to be held Saturday, May 15, at the Decatur County Civic Center in Parsons. Noah’s Ark Summer Program Noah’s Ark at First United Methodist Church is having a summer program on Tuesdays and Thursdays this summer. It will serve birth through third grade. Noah’s Ark is taking applications for next fall. Classes are filling up quickly. The program serves children from birth to K4. Marine Corps League meeting The Capt. Jack Holland Marine Corps League Detachment will have its next monthly meeting May 20 at Ryan’s Steakhouse on the 45 By-Pass in Jackson. CCHS Class of 1980 Reunion The Chester County High School class of 1980 will hold their 30th class reunion on June 19 at the Henderson Elks Lodge. The cost is $25 per person and should be sent to the Chester County Class of 1980 Reunion Fund, 900 Lipscomb Lane, Henderson, TN 38340.

Roby VFD Fundraiser Roby Volunteer Fire Department, 5050 Roby Road at Henderson, will have its spring fundraiser starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. Barbecued chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs will be available.

Selmer Idol Contest The last preliminary round for the Selmer Idol Contest, for ages 20-35 and 36 and above, will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, at the Selmer Community Center, 232 N. 5th St. The entry fee is $20. For information, call 645-3866.

Sunrise Grief Support meeting Shackelford’s Sunrise Aftercare program will host the free monthly grief support meeting at 7 p.m. on May 27, in the rear dining room of Southern Oaks Assisted Living. Quarterback Club Golf Tournament

There will be no Headhugger Hat meeting for the month of May. The group will resume regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month on June 21, at the Studio 412 building behind Henderson First Assembly Church.

The Chester County Quarterback Club has announced its first annual golf tournament on Friday, May 28, at Woodland Hills Country Club at Pinson. The entry fee is $250 per team – four-person scramble. Chester County 911 Camp

FHU Summer Swim Classes

The EMS 911 Camp will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, at the First United Methodist Church in Henderson. This is a free one-day camp for children 9-12 who are interested in being a junior paramedic/firefighter/law enforcement officer. The children will learn CPR, first aid, fire and bike safety, along with operations of other emergency functions. Camp will conclude with a reception from 4-5 p.m. All parents and friends are invited to attend. The application deadline is May 17; no registrations at the door. Space is limited. Registration for summer swim classes for children will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, May 28, at Bader Gym on the FreedHardeman University campus. CCHS Senior Walk The Chester County Senior Class of 2010 will be having a “Senior Walk” through downtown Henderson at 8:30 a.m. on Graduation Day, Monday, May 17. They will begin at the First United Methodist Church and walk down Main Street to the High School. Show your support for the seniors that morning by lining the street.

Caregivers’ Group meeting The Caregivers’ Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 17, at the Chester County Senior Center. Lori Farrow with Asera Care in Jackson, Hospice Care will speak. Everyone is invited.

Pre-K Registration Pre-kindergarten registration will be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, at North Chester School cafeteria, 186 Luray Ave. A child must be 4 years old by Sept. 30 in order to be eligible for the 2010-11 school year. Eligibility is determined by income. Other factors to consider are English Language Learners, children of military families, and children in foster care. Documents needed include Proof of Income (check stub, tax return), Birth Certificate (official copy), Social Security Card, and Chester County Proof of residence (ex. water or electric bill, rent receipt). You will be notified by July 15 if your child qualifies. You must provide updated immunization records and physical exam on the first day of school. Benefit Concert for Jason Stanley There will be a benefit concert for Jason and Lisa (Strickland) Stanley at 2 p.m. on May 30, at The Springs United Pentecostal Church of Jackson, 3370 Hwy 45 South, two miles north of Pinson. Featured singers will be Stan Crouse, Buel Maness, The Marshall’s, Tony and Karolyn Smith and many others. Jason was involved in a serious accident and has been in the hospital for several weeks. ‘Girls of Summer’ Pageant The “Girls of Summer” Pageant will be held on Saturday, June 5, at Williams Auditorium. Doors open at 10 a.m. with a cash only registration. Pageants begin at 10:30 and run consecutively. Age groups are: Birth-12 months; 13-23 months; 2-3 yrs; 4-6 yrs; 7-9 yrs; 10-12 yrs; 13-15 yrs; 16-18 yrs. Fee to enter a pageant is $25. Optional categories are Most Photogenic, Prettiest Smile, Best Dressed and Prettiest Hair. Optional categories are $5 each or enter everything (beauty and all categories) for $40. Benefit Ride for Anthony Meeks There will be a benefit ride for Anthony “Tank” Meeks, who suffers from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, at Pickwick Landing State Park Inn. Rain date will be June 26. The cost is $25 for a single rider or $40 for a couple. Riders will receive a T-shirt and a meal consisting of hamburgers and hot dogs with trimmings. CITY OF HENDERSON POLICE DEPARTMENT May 3, 2010 Approximately $240 in cash was reportedly stolen from the cash register at Besso’s. According to the report, Besso’s manager called the police department after arriving at work Monday morning and finding the cash register broken into. Southwest Human Resource reported a broken front window. Damage was estimated at $500. May 4, 2010 Someone reported a possible break in to a locking mailbox. According to the report, the box showed scratch marks and the rubber seal was broken as if having been pried open. May 6, 2010 A purse was reportedly stolen from a vehicle. The pink purse, valued at $38, contained a billfold, valued at $22; a blood glucose meter, valued at $75; two 150 mg Wellbutrin, valued at $25; two 40 mg Celexa, valued at $15; 22 20 mg Enalapril, valued at $40; 66 1 mg Xanax, valued at $20; and $10 cash. May 9, 2010 A vehicle was reportedly vandalized on Pinehurst Drive. Damage was reported to the driver’s side part of the hood, driver’s side rear quarterpanel and passenger side quarterpanel. A vehicle parked at a building on Hwy 45 was reportedly vandalized. According to the report, it appeared that someone had taken large rocks and

broken out the windshield. There were also large dents in the hood and passenger side door. Damage is estimated at $2,000. Arnold, 26, 1145 Tucker Cove, was arrested and charged with driving on a cancelled/revoked or suspended license and violation of the seatbelt law. May 5, 2010 Phyllis Ann Ingram, 45, 597 Sanford St. Apt. 803, was arrested and charged with contempt of court. She was released from the Chester County jail on her own recognizance. Bradley Ryan McGill, 25, Pinson, was arrested and charged with failure to appear. He is being held in the Chester County jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond. May 6, 2010 Cedarrius D. Trice, 18, 1635 Old Finger Road, was arrested and charged with simple domestic assault and vandalism. He is being held in the Chester County jail in lieu of a $500 bond. May 7, 2010 John A. Matthews, 40, Pinson, was arrested and charged with failure to appear. He was released from the Chester County jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
