Lethality Assessment Program: Train the Trainer

Understanding Domestic Violence for Campus Telecommunications Personnel

The Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) is an easy and effective way for law enforcement to 1) identify victims of domestic violence who are at risk of being seriously injured or killed by their intimate partners and 2) immediately connect them to the domestic violence service provider in their area. The goal of the LAP is to prevent domestic violence homicides, serious injury and re-assault by encouraging victims to use the support services of their local domestic violence agency. At this training, you will learn about the LAP program, the lethality screening tool, how to conduct a lethality screen for first responders, how to initiate the protocol for high danger screens and best practices for the lethality assessment program.

Oftentimes, the campus telecommunications person is the first contact when a victim of intimate partner violence calls the police for assistance. What and how a campus telecommunications person responds to the victim’s call may affect the safety of the victim. The telecommunications person is also the vital link between the victim and the responding police officers.

MEMBER ORGANIZATION TRAININGS Developing a Language Access Plan

Facilitating an Effective Support Group

Having a proactive plan for meeting the language needs of survivors with LEP can help to provide meaningful access to services while increasing their options and enhancing their safety. Developing greater language access is an ongoing process.
