Mesh Networking: Automatically Create a Self-Healing Wireless Network in Minutes A wireless mesh network is built from any number of 802.11g wireless routers/repeaters that can connect to each other through one or more “hops.” Only one of the routers in the mesh network need be connected to an Ethernet cable; the others work together to determine the most efficient pathway for data to reach a particular node. Mesh networks are “self-healing,” which means that if one router should become unavailable, the others will renegotiate a new routing map. Open-Mesh provides open source software and free hosted management that allows users to control bandwidth, establish open and private networks, or add third party billing options.
