Aiming For Success Annual Convocation Held

There are many breaking definitions of convocation. Some dictionaries will define the event as a special assembly of bishops and representative clergy. Others would define it as a ceremonial assembly of members of a college or university. For Haywood County, one could probably look at a certain convocation as a unique mix of both, as well as an opportunity to get the parents and community excited about Haywood County Schools new year. The event, which, pulled in a multitude of local and area leaders, featured performances from the Haywood County High School Show Choir. Haywood County Schools Director Marlon King began the school year with his annual State of the Schools message and convocation Wednesday August 3 at Christ Church.

This years was not only about current students in the Haywood County School System, but also provided a spotlight on some of HHS successful and leading HHS alumni. And before King discussed some of the school system regulations and rules, the event also

Business Owner to hold Class On Couponing In this economic crunch for families, one local woman has taken an old concept and placed new ideas to it, Couponing is not just for the stay at home mom any more. In the past few years it has become a must to save money in any way possible. Amy Spotts, owner of The Computer Patch located on the square, has made an art of couponing and has shared her knowledge with others interested in learning. She has held two classes, and due to the demand ,she is teaching a third on August 25 at 6 p.m. Amy has been composing for over fourteen years. She started couponing when her family was a one income family, While in college working to finish her degree, Amy began working and thought that she didn’t need to coupon anymore. It did not take long before she realized just how much money she was wasting by not using

the coupons. For those that are interested in registering for The Art of Couponing call 731-585-1000. The cost is $5 and has a limited registration. Amy will teach how to coupon and save money on your grocery and household items. There will be handouts to explain where you can find, how to use and when to use certain coupons. She will also include some recipes she uses for household cleaners made from every day ingredients. Also included in the class will be information on websites that can help you find coupons and alert you to deals in your area. She will also have handouts on coupon lingo. Refreshments will also be served by Chasity Jones DeGroat promoting her new, all natural, Wild Tree Products. Amy has started a Facebook page, for those interested, called Brownsville TN Penny

Pinchers. You may send a request to become a member to read her post and tips as well as other members. As the saying goes, “A Penny saved is a penny earned.” And with today’s rising cost we need to try to find all the pennies we can find. Below is a recipe from Amy for Laundry Detergent. This washing detergent is very inexpensive to use. It makes a very large batch and is made with all natural ingredients. It is also safe for septic tanks and it can be mixed with any store bought detergent to stretch or for certain scents. All of the items may be found at most local stores. 2 cups Fels Naptha Soap (grated) 1 cup Washing Soda 1 cup Borax Mix well and store in an airtight plastic container. Use 2 tablespoons per full load.
