WELCOME TO PrideFEST '14 > Pride WA has been part of the Western Australian community since 1989. We grew out of a community movement protesting against laws that actively discriminated against members of our community. Over the years, Pride WA has evolved to incorporate an annual arts and culture festival, parade and community events calendar.
In 2014, Pride WA marks the 25th anniversary of the protest rally in 1989, which consequently led to the formation of an organisation called ‘Pride’ in 1990. With many attitudes changed, numerous hard-earned rights gained and countless hours of volunteering contributed over several decades by thousands of people, it is hardly surprising that the environment for LGBTIQ people in Perth has evolved – for the better. There is however, still more work to be done; as we have seen recently from images and stories coming out of Russia and parts of Africa, hard-won freedoms can never be taken for granted.
Pride WA has recently completed a wideranging and comprehensive Strategic Review of the organisation to identify the purpose of Pride in a contemporary Western Australia and to develop a sustainable organisational plan and business model for the future. Pride WA wishes to sincerely thank Lotterywest for funding the Strategic Review project and to the board and staff at Lotterywest for their support and encouragement throughout the process. Pride WA also wishes to thank its many enthusiastic members, volunteers, supporters and other community groups in the Pride community, and indeed the wider community, for their continued support of Pride WA over the last 18 months as the organisation has embarked upon this process.
Going forward, the core purpose for Pride WA remains to encourage the cultural expression, celebration and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and all people of diverse sexuality and gender living in Western Australia. In 2014, Pride WA is able to REFLECT on our humble beginnings in 1989 and indeed celebrate the hard-won successes of the last 25 years,RENEW our vision to become a sustainable, vibrant and active arts, culture and community focused organisation and REJOICE in an exciting future that embraces the LGBTIQ community and engages and connects with the wider Western Australian community.
The new vision for Pride WA is to lead by example in creating a world where inclusion and diversity are embraced and celebrated.

Messages On behalf of Pride Western Australia, I welcome you to PrideFEST 2014: REFLECT, RENEW, REJOICE a celebration of our Community. PrideFEST is a time for the community to come together and be proud of who we are, to celebrate and acknowledge diversity in gender and sexuality.
As Pride moves into its 25th year it’s also a time to look at where we are going and to be true to our core value : To lead by example in creating a world where inclusion and diversity are embraced and celebrated. It’s a time to showcase the talents within the Pride community and, by doing so, to promote awareness of the many challenges that LGBTIQ people still face both locally and abroad. At the same time, we should be rejoicing and looking forward to the next 25 years, where hopefully greater progress is achieved in the fight for equality and fairness. I wish to thank the many people who have volunteered their time over the years on committees, marshalling, building floats, attending bars and stalls. The support from the community is vital to Pride’s ability to succeed. We have reflected and renewed through the Strategic Review it’s now time to REJOICE and celebrate. Happy Pride!

Pride WA reflects on the 25th anniversary of the first march to parliament in 1989, renew demonstrates the outcome of the strategic review and rejoice is where Pride WA is today looking toward the 25th anniversary of the organisation in 2015.
Nicole Corbett I can’t believe 25 years have passed since I marched with friends up to parliament in 1989. In that time many have fought and championed the rights of LGBTIQ individuals with many successful outcomes! This year’s PrideFEST celebrates these achievements through our theme of REFLECT, RENEW, REJOICE via the arts, culture, community events and the parade. Thank you to all the volunteers and supporters of our community over the years and let’s continue improving life for all in our 25th year of Pride WA in 2015.
Amy Henderson
This year’s PrideFEST theme encourages us as a community to REFLECT on our history and pay homage to those who fought for our rights and freedoms; REJOICE in our achievements and celebrate how far we’ve come; andRENEW our commitment to creating a world where inclusion and diversity are embraced and celebrated.
Graham Lovelock
In 2014 we reflect on everything our community has achieved since the protest rally in 1989, renew our commitment to ensuring a strong LGBTIQ community in the future and rejoice in the inclusion and diversity of the Pride community in Western Australia. Happy Pride 2014!
Daniel Smith
PrideFEST is an opportunity for us to celebrate the enormous contribution that LGBT people make to arts, culture and the broader community. It enables us to reflect on where we have come from, where we are today and where we want to be in the future.

PrideFEST 2014 to me is a celebration of sexual, cultural and gender diversity in the community. A time for all to rejoice together about what makes us different as individuals.
Colin McDonald
This year, Pride is more important than ever, as we REFLECT on some of the setbacks for LGBTIQ rights that have occurred in other parts of the world, RENEW our focus on achieving all the goals that we have set for ourselves, and REJOICE in the fact that we have come a long way in the last 25 years.
Marcus
Andrew Barker
As an organisation we REFLECT back on the achievements of Pride and all the hard work so many have done before us. REjoice in the diversity of talent artistry and skills displayed by members of our community. RENEW our view of the future commitment of Pride to forge a renewed, redefined direction in keeping with current views of our LGBTIQ community and develop a professional sustainable model moving forward.
Rae O’Neill
PrideFEST to me is about coming together as a community, a family and celebrating our uniqueness.

PrideFEST always graces Northbridge for ten days in November with an inspiring celebration to Reflect, Renew, Rejoice on those who have lead the way and contributed so much over the last 25 years and celebrate the future direction. 2014 is jam-packed with events that celebrate the diversity of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and questioning (LGBTIQ) community, covering a range of themes that will appeal to all ages and audiences. The City of Perth has been a long term supporter of Pride WA and is always excited to see this festival continue to grow and flourish. On behalf of the City of Perth, I congratulate Pride WA on a positive and strong program and encourage everyone to support and enjoy these events.

As the State Member for Perth, it is with great pride I support this unique, diverse and inclusive event which activates our City and enlivens the streets of Northbridge.

The City of Vincent is very proud to sponsor the Pride WA festival – because we firmly believe in an inclusive and diverse community, where everyone enjoys the same rights and respect. While much has been achieved, there is still plenty of work to be done to tackle discrimination. Vincent as a council is playing its part, by establishing WA’s first Relationship Declaration Register which enables both heterosexual and same-sex couples a formal recognition of their relationship (search our website for more).
In this its 25th year, PrideFEST will showcase a plethora of events brought together through months of hard work and commitment, by a strong, reinvigorated and committed team. It is a much anticipated, integral part of our City's rich and diverse fabric. Through a magnificent program of cultural, artistic and musical presentations, we see communities align to celebrate the deeper messages of equality, tolerance, understanding and acceptance of all. I am pleased to be a longstanding supporter of PrideFEST. Not only have I over the years enjoyed attending the events, but have forged friendships I value tremendously. The State Government is very pleased to support PrideFEST through Lotterywest. On behalf of the Premier the Hon Colin Barnett MLA, I wish you all the very best for a great festival and look forward to seeing many of you at the events.
very best wishes to Western Australia’s LGBTIQ community for PrideFEST 2014. Labor has a long and proud history supporting equality for LGBTIQ people. The WA community has come a long way since the 1989 protest event which led to the ever more successful yearly Pride Festival. But there is more to do to stop bullying and discrimination and to promote acceptance and love. For this reason, 2014’s theme of Reflect, Renew, Rejoice is most appropriate. We can look back and celebrate the gains made in equality, but let’s all renew our efforts to make sure progress continues. It would be pleasing if these efforts could result in marriage equality in the near future. My congratulations and best wishes go to the hard-working organisers of PrideFEST 2014 and to all who join in this year’s celebrations.
PrideFEST also gives the LGBITQ community a great opportunity to come together and feel connected as part of something bigger. Let’s make sure we welcome all to be a part of this celebration – let’s Reflect, Renew, Rejoice together!

US Ambassador PrideFEST is an excellent example of the LGBT community, their families and their supporters in Western Australia celebrating the values of diversity and inclusion. Events such as this serve as an inspiration to other communities in the world where fundamental rights and freedoms and equality are questioned or challenged. I wish Pride WA and the wider LGBT community a truly memorable celebration, and I know that U.S. Consul General Cynthia Griffin looks forward to attending the planned festivities. Together, let us celebrate and support the efforts and accomplishments of the LGBT community in Australia and around the world.

By arrangement with Origin™ Theatrical, on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. Our special fundraising night from Playlovers Inc, presenting the Australian premiere theatrical production of Sordid Lives. Grab a friend or fellow thespian and enjoy a night out at the theatre! When good Christian woman Peggy hits her head on the sink and bleeds to death after tripping over her much younger, married lover's wooden legs in a seedy motel room…chaos erupts in Winters, Texas! Her colourful family must come to grips with her death and deal with their own demons while preparing for what could be an embarrassing funeral. There’s Ty, her closeted grandson who is trying to find his identity in West Hollywood; Brother Boy, her son who has spent the past twenty-three years dressed as Tammy Wynette and locked up in a psychiatric hospital; Latrelle, LaVonda and Noletta, the bored housewives who live in delightfully kitschy homes and spend their days in their own petty little world of gossip and rumour and the gun toting fellas of the bar, trying desperately to keep up.

This is the incredible true story of a Welsh mining community struggling to make ends meet during the 1984 miners’ strike, when hope arrives with the unlikeliest of allies – a group of gay and lesbian activists who decide to raise money for the miners.
