hroughout her nine years of volunteer service, Ginny Nash’s smile greeted visitors to Toy Box, the gift shop at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. “She loved to talk, and she loved to laugh, and she could make anyone else laugh, too; the thing about her was that she was so much fun,” commented Patty Nash Johaningmeyer, daughter and nurse practitioner in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at SSM Cardinal Glennon. Ginny loved her family and would do anything for them. She spent every Saturday for 12 years taking her “special” granddaughter, Anna, out to lunch. By creating this tradition, it showed her commitment to loving all God’s children.
“My mom had a bad back, but she didn’t allow that to stop her. She loved Cardinal Glennon, the place, the people and the children,” Patty said. Many people at the hospital felt the loss following her death. Her service was attended by many from Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. Two of the neonatologists, Dr. Sadiq and Dr. Noguchi, actually served as pallbearers. Her humor, warmth, laughter, smile and dedication made her part of the SSM Cardinal Glennon family. She felt that the people at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center were part of her own family, too. Her smile and laugh will always be remembered; she is surely missed.
