The population growth rate of the region was posted at 1.49% in 2000-2007, lower than the rates registered in 1995-2000 (2.46%) and 1995-2007 (1.95%). 1.3.2 Urban-Rural Population Distribution From 1980 to 2000, the urban population grew at an average annual rate of 0.42%, while the rural population grew at a much slower pace of 0.18%. By the year 2020, 33.7% of the region’s total population is expected to be living in urban areas, increasing to 35.1% in 2030. Puerto Princesa City, a highly urbanized city in the region, has 58.0% of its population living in urban areas, as of year 2000. Occidental Mindoro and Palawan are 37.6% and 28.7% urban, respectively.
