Dear Student-Athletes, What will the 2011-2012 academic year become for you? Each fall, student-athletes across the country have the opportunity to set new personal goals, new team goals and pursue them with a renewed sense of optimism. As you begin this year, whether you are an incoming freshman or a senior entering your final year at Canisius, commit yourself to pursuing those goals knowing that others are counting on you! Being a student-athlete at Canisius College is a great privilege and carries with it a great responsibility. How you embrace this responsibility, represent your teammates and the many alumni who have built the tradition at Canisius are what will dictate our future success. If you are successful in reaching your individual goals and in turn you help your teammates reach theirs - success, both academically and athletically will be an assured outcome. The information in this handbook is designed to be another tool that you can use to reach this level of success. It will provide you with answers to many of the general questions you may have as a student and an athlete. It is a great reference to many athletic department policies, MAAC, Atlantic Hockey, ECAC and NCAA rules that pertain to you as a studentathlete. It is by no means a comprehensive listing, but rather a source of information for many of the key questions student-athletes have during their time at Canisius. On behalf of the Athletic Department Staff and the College, I encourage you to become familiar with the information contained in this document. It lays out the basic expectations that all student-athletes must be aware of. Your head coach will provide you with team specific policies and together they will govern your experience as a student-athlete at Canisius. 2011-2012, as with the start of any academic year, opens with great optimism. The end result will be up to you and your teammates to determine how this year will be remembered. Do your part to raise the standard and help us continue to build on the championship history of the Golden Griffins. Sincerely,

Thanks. -Bill Maher Director of Athletics
