roland pitschel, Oakland facilities supervisor for the last 27 years, passed away on August 1, 2009. He was CCA’s unofficial archivist and historian, with an amazing memory for anything related to the facilities and grounds. His extensive botanical and arboreal knowledge is evident all over the Oakland campus, and his dependability, ingenuity, artistry, and wry sense of humor will be missed.

Professor emeritus ARTHUR OKAMURA passed away on July 10, 2009, near his home in Bolinas, California, at age 77. He taught at the college for 31 years, retiring in 1997, and was an important mentor to hundreds of students. He was a prolific painter and also worked in screenprinting and drawing. His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others.
