SETTING UP THE

WORDPRESS THEME

The Community Journalism Wordpress theme was specifically designed to help people share news with their communities. The theme is easily customisable even with little technical knowledge, and contains features such as a scrolling headline area, built-in news categories, social links and advertising space. It is also a fully responsive design so it looks great on laptops, tablets and mobile phone screens.

This guide starts from the basis that you already have Wordpress installed onto your hosting and that you can access your Wordpress settings area. If you’re just starting out and haven’t got this far, we recommend going to the main Wordpress site where they have comprehensive guides on how to do this: http://wordpress.org If you want to install a Welsh language version of Wordpress, then you can download a special Wordpress package from: http://cy.wordpress.org Once you have Wordpress installed, you can then progress to loading the Community Journalism Theme and customising it to suit your needs. If you would like more details on using Wordpress in general then the main Wordpress website is a great place to start.

Installing the Wordpress theme Firstly, download the theme file (community-journalism.zip) from the Centre for Community Journalism website and save it to your computer. When you download the file, IT'S IMPORTANT you click the right hand button on your mouse to download, as you need to keep the content in the .zip file. Double clicking on the file will result in the file being opened - it cannot be installed in this format. It must be saved as a .zip file. Next, get to your Wordpress settings by typing the web address directly into your browser’s address bar – this is normally your website name followed by /wp-admin e.g. www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
