Mile High Night • 2016 National Hereford Sale Friday, January 15, 2016 On the Stadium Floor

Joe Rickabaugh Office 816-218-2280 • Cell 785-633-3188 jrick@hereford.org

Dear Hereford Breeders, Welcome to the 110th National Western and the “Mile High Night” National Hereford Sale. The powerful showing of Herefords on the hill and in the yards has caught the attention of many cattlemen regardless of their breed loyalty. Last year it was humbling to have another million dollar “Mile High Night National Hereford Sale” conducted on the stadium floor. It was a spectacle to behold and is a credit to consignors, buyers and Hereford breeders across the continent. The Denver Hereford sale catalog again this year captures a view of last year’s record setting event. The Mile High Night Sale offers a superior selection of genetics from the top Hereford operations in North America. The sale features a stout offering of bulls. A concerted effort has been set forth again this year to offer a set of bulls that can headline many programs in addition to having a genetically superior bull walk the pasture after an AI program. Bulls from past Denver sales have made their impact in the Hereford industry. If you are considering a top Hereford bull for your operation please take some time and review the bulls in this sale. We have another great set of bulls for the 2016 Mile High Night sale. The female offering has traditionally been elite, offering some of the best genetics to be found in the Hereford business. Again sale management has reached out to gather more outstanding females for the sale this year. The “Mile High Night” affair offers females from the top operations across the country. This sale will also features " pick of the herd" and "pick of pens" from several outstanding Hereford operations. This year the AHA is helping with the Mile High Eve sale which will be conducted on Thursday evening and will feature a great set of Hereford frozen genetics. Please check out the offering in this sale, the catalog is a ride along with this issue of the Hereford World. Again this year the sale will be conducted after the yard show is completed on Friday afternoon. Sale management has the privilege of adding lots to the sale selected from all the Hereford entries that show or display in Denver. Combine this with the outstanding consignments in this sale catalog and the “Mile High Night” promises to be an event for all serious Hereford breeders. We want to thank Kevin Jensen & Family, Courtland, Kansas and Dylan and Chelsea Evans, Lebo, Kansas for donating the foundation heifer — Lot 1 this year to the sale. This power female has the genetics to be a leading donor for many Hereford operations. She is one solid female. Many thanks go to all the consignors to the 2016 Mile High Sale. They are bringing the good ones to the 2016 National Western in Denver. The consignors deserve the credit for taking the Mile High Night and Hereford presence in Denver to all new levels. We would like to invite Hereford breeders from across North America to join us for this great Hereford evening. The sale starts at 6:30 p.m. (MST) with plenty seats on the Stadium Floor. We look forward to seeing you in Denver. If you can’t make it to Denver the sale will be broadcast on LiveAuctions.tv. Feel free to contact us if we can answer any questions or provide additional information on any of the sale lots. Sincerely, American Hereford Association Joe Rickabaugh

PICK

• This will be the first time for Jensen Bros. to offer a Jensen bred herd bull at auction in Denver. We have sold Herd bulls to AI studs, foreign countries and many good Hereford breeders over the years at the National Western, however the sales have always been private treaty. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a young herd bull that could be a game changing herd sire in the future. Our breeding principles are simple, we want a bull to last and we want to test him in every way possible, which includes using the young sire test. The majority of these bulls’ dams were bred here as well as their grandams and great-grandams. • We are selling ½ interest with full possession on any Jensen bred bull we’ve brought to Denver 2016.

• This mating has worked as well as any in our breeding program – Cracker Jack x 20R. Full sisters to this heifer have won two JNHE Division Champions, one JNHE Reserve Division Champion and JNHE Reserve Champion Cow-Calf Pair. A full sister is also the dam of All In, our lead carload bull last year. We feel strongly that she may be the best Cracker Jack x 20R yet.

• Daughter of 33Z who was the pick of our 2013 carload, selling to Lorenzen Farms. This heifer has been the pick of many top cattlemen this summer. Her mother comes from a cow family with perfect udders, has been a great producer and is now in our donor program. This girl carries herself beautifully with tremendous substance and volume

• Another daughter of 33Z, her dam has been a top producer and was also the dam of the pick of our 2014 carload of bulls, selling to Eva Hamman in Texas. This heifer is an example of why we are so high on the 33Z calves. Beautiful look, excellent volume and thickness in a package that should make a fantastic cow!

PICK

• This has been a feature lot in the National Hereford Sale for several years. When you look at the list of buyers who have taken advantage of this opportunity, it is pretty impressive. • The buyer has access to all herd records, including HerdMaster records. The buyer may select from well over 1,200 polled and horned females. This includes all of the Rausch donors. 728 cows have qualified for the Dam of Distinction list since 1980. There were 43 new qualifiers this year. • It is impressive to see all the cows, calves and sires in their natural breeding pastures. A full list of females will be provided prior to selection. Records can be sorted on any trait in the largest in-herd database in the breed. • For more pictures and information, go to www.RauschHerefords.com • More assistance is available in making the pick of herd.

Sired by the 2012 National Champion and Supreme Champion, Trust 100W. • Her dam is the great Online daughter, Natalie 308B, that is a feature donor for Pierce’s in Wisconsin and McDonald’s in Michigan. • If you study her EPD profile you can easily see why we like this female. Top 10% in 9 of the measurements. Outstanding performance and maternal markers. She boasts a fantastic spread from birth, 4.0 to yearling at a whopping 109. Even bigger news, a $37 CHB index! LOT 13 — OJJ 936 GINGER ET

OJJ RANCH

• OJJ 936 Ginger is the product of a great performance and EPD mating. She is a powerfully made heifer with very nice bone and muscle. Several visitors have picked her as the best of my females. The comments are always consistent, “great bone and muscle and a ‘powerful’ heifer”. • 936 is well known for her great EPDs and consistent performance numbers. • Pattie 600S, is by the legendary Allendale Robin Hood bull. Pattie has always worked with whatever bull I have used and has passed on great performance numbers. Although 600S is gone now, she has left a great legacy in my herd. The flush of this mating was consistent in every way. • One of my top bull calves and a full brother to Ginger, was sold in October to a Montana ranch at a premium price. A full sister sold to GKB at the special female sale of Brumley, Bar One and OJJ Ranches in October. I am retaining another heifer from the same mating for my herd. Ginger is my top heifer, but I want to offer my best to you. Both phenotype and genotype have aligned to produce this great heifer.

• We are once again honored to be a part of the Mile High Night Sale and have selected a group of our best heifers for you to pick from. Last year the pick of our pen sold for $42,000 to Santee Farms. With heifers sired by Cracker Jack, who is know for making beautiful females and Full Throttle who is arguably one of the hottest bulls in the breed, you’ll have options you won’t know what to do with! Cracker Jack heifers are homozygous polled. Visit www.nextgenerationgenetics.com, for videos and pictures of all pen heifers.

• We had high hopes for this mating but never imagined that it would yield what it has. Full sib DPH LH BF Launch 1310 was the high selling lot in The Event Sale last year where he sold for $76,250 for ¼ semen interest. Full sib DPH Catapault 1311 ET sold last year in the Mile High Night Sale to Perks Ranch and then went on to be Grand Champion Polled Hereford bull at the Illinois State Fair. 502 is an exceptional blend of proven genotype with jaw dropping phenotype. He’s a bull that puts a lot of good things together, and like his brothers, he just gets better every day. 502 has a tremendous amount of quality and consistency on both sides of his pedigree and I think that he will pass that along to his progeny as well. • Selling full possession and ¾ semen interest. • Bull will be 50K tested and results will be in by sale day.

• 4113 is an August yearling horned female that we think has a lot to offer. She is a stout made, big square hipped and long bodied female. Extremely bold sprung in her rib shape, deep flanked and has plenty of sweep to her rib cage. She is big boned and sets down on a sound foot with plenty of flex on both ends. She is striking in her appearance. This powerhouse still remains smooth in her shoulder and ultra-feminine and fresh through her front one-third. • The dam of 4113, 092X, “Burlesque” is a multiple-time national champion female and has begun to make quite a name for herself in the donor pen. 092X is an About Time daughter out of the ever-popular Flirtatious donor who has produced over $500,000 in progeny. To top it off, 4113 is sired by the breed changing and industry leading 88X. • There is no guess work here, exquisite phenotype coupled with cutting edge genetics. This female is going places. She will speak for herself. • Bred AI Nov. 3, 2015, to Churchill Sensation 028X. • Selling ½ interest.

PICK OF FEBRUARY BULLS • Selling choice of our February born pen of bulls. This pen features flushmates out of one of our most powerful donors, a Ladysport 78P daughter mated to WLB Powerball. Powerball calves have been commanding top dollar at sales this fall and this group fits the mold. These calves are loaded with muscle mass, travel well and are conservatively marked with added pigment. Five February born bulls to choose from. • Selling full possession and ¾ semen interest.

• Here is your chance to own a national champion! Diva (we like to call her Favorite) and her 2014 heifer calf were named Grand Champion Cow-Calf Pair at both the 2014 American Royal and the 2015 National Western. That heifer went on to be purchased by the Dearman family in Mississippi for $12,500. This polled young cow is sired by the now deceased Excel and is bred back to CRR Catapault with a May 2016 heifer calf! • Ultrasound done in October 2015. • The horned May heifer calf at side is sired by another national champion, C Stockman. We are offering you the choice — buy the proven donor, bred back with a heifer calf or start your next show season off right by opting for her exceptional May heifer! • The sellers are retaining one flush on either female selected at the buyer’s convenience and the seller’s expense. • This lot is jointly offered by Aubrey’s Cattle Co. and Ramsey’s Herefords.

• 500C stems from the prominent TH donor, 71U. 71U has produced several high sellers in past TH bull sales including TH 71U 719T Mr Hereford 11X, the high seller in 2011, TH Mountaineer 420A who topped the 2014 TH bull sale and several others that have sold to prominent breeders throughout the U.S. In fact, 71U has produced more financial totals than any other female at Topp Herefords. 71U records lifetime ratios of 91.5 BW and 106 WW. 500C is a full sister to TH 71U 719T Mr Hereford 11X. Needless to say, the 11X females are some of the most prominent younger generation females at TH.

• Tungsten is a horned bull calf that has a truly unique pedigree, EPD profile and incredible phenotype. This bull is loaded with power donors on both sides. His sire, 3053, is out of the record selling 5139 donor. 3053 himself was the lead bull in Hoffman’s 2014 Denver Champion Carload. Tungsten’s dam is sired by the immortal L18 and out of our power donor 206. The 206 donor has created over $2,000,000 in progeny. Her sons and daughters are winning banners and creating high profit offspring. Tungsten is absolutely stunning from a design standpoint. His shoulder is super smooth and transitions into his top line perfectly. He is solid marked with pigment in both eyes. He is sound on the move and has rib and desired shape. Tungsten will be multi-dimensional with calving ease and maternalism and an added bonus of show and power potential. We are certain this bull calf will help breeding programs of all types with his rock solid ancestry, impressive EPDs and irresistible eye appeal. Find him in the DeLHawk stalls on the Hill! • Selling ¾ interest, full possession. Retaining ¼ semen interest.

• When Joe told us they were looking for bred heifers for the sale in Denver we thought, what an opportunity to open up the keeper pen and offer the best we had, even the one we told him he couldn’t have as an open last year! LFF Becky offers an outstanding profile with loads of maternal power and flawless structural integrity. Pair that with a pedigree that reads with so many great sires and dams, we believe the future is going to be exciting. Oh yea, did I mention she is safe in calf to About Time? Her sire NJW 73S W18 Hometown 10Y needs no introduction as he continues to sire some of the best cattle in the breed. Her dam, H Odetta 001 ET was our selection and the leadoff heifer in the 2010 Ladies of the Royal Sale consigned by Hoffman’s. She has become a cornerstone donor in our program with a tremendous flush record. She is a perfect uddered cow that breeds, calves and performs like clockwork. Buy with confidence. We expect exciting things out of this female for years to come. • Bred on May 13, 2015. • Retaining the right to one (1) successful flush minimum six (6) embryos at the seller’s expense and the buyer’s convenience.

LOT 36 – SR 021W CALLIA 5025

• Here is a long necked, clean fronted, extremely feminine female that has a world of power. This heifer has been a standout from birth. She is the natural calf out of one of our favorite donors, 021W. Her dam has really been making her mark at Sierra. She produced one of the most consistently high selling set of bulls in our bull sale out of multiple sires. The maternal grandam to this heifer is a leading donor at Iron Lake. 5025 will carry on the tradition of this cow family. If you want to show her, she has what it takes and when she hits the donor pen it will be lights out. It is definitely hard to part with this one.

• 5026 is one of the first big time Mindy prospects offered at public auction. • She is big boned and stout with a soft, sound ultimate show heifer look to compete at the highest level and is a great donor cow prospect. • Several maternal sisters have been very successful in the showring, including three national champions and one JNHE national champion. • 5026 is sired by Unleashed who has sired several big time prospects, including the McInnis Cattle Co. heifer that sold for $30,000 in the 2014 Mile High Sale.

• 5011 is a big boned, soft made heifer with that winning functional look. • She is the granddaughter of our Caroline cow, who raised the 2015 Ft. Worth Junior Show Reserve Champion Polled Hereford Heifer exhibited by Slade Berwinkle. • Take notice of the Unleashed progeny. They were some of the most competitive females on the road last year. • 5011 has some of the breed greats in her pedigree with BR Goldriel, DM Sooner, Mr Hereford, RW Caroline and RW Hummer. There is no doubt that her pedigree reads like a Who’s Who and she is destined to be a great cow prospect.

He is very thick, deep ribbed and square hipped with a tremendous hindquarter, along with a ton of bone. Pedigree, numbers, look and pigment make this youngster an awesome prospect. He has the potential to position his new owner at the front of the Hereford business! His incredible dam is as good as it gets. She was one of Churchill Cattle Company’s favorite young donors and had a daughter sell for $13,500 in their most recent sale. • Pigment: LE 100%, RE 100%. This full sib heifer is for sale in her entirety! Her only time to be shown she was named champion of a competitive fall division at Junior Nationals last summer. • Reed 002X Covergirl 2C is one of the most unique females to sell all year. She is a powerhouse donor in the making. It is nearly impossible to construct a female with the kind of length and muscle she has while still remaining soft made and super sound. She stems from the elite in the breed, being a daughter of the great CRR 719 Catpult 109 who has established himself as a mainstay in the Hereford breed, and Churchill Lady 002X ET who has quickly risen to elite status after raising sons Red Bull, Stud, Manhattan, Heads Up and Sure Bet, all serving as AI studs. When you analyze her on paper she is unrivaled. She is average for birth and in the top 1% for all performance traits. When you combine all of these attributes, you are left with a foundation type female that will be a force in the breed for years to come. • Selling full interest and full possession. Seller is retaining the right to two (2) future flushes with a minimum of six (6) eggs per flush at buyer’s convenience and seller’s expense.

• 1543 will be one of the first Twentytwelve 190Z females offered. Her dam, OXH MRNA 1093, was purchased from the famous Oxley herd dispersal and is the absolute jewel of our ranch. 1093’s older, proven genetics work tremendously well with today’s progressive bloodlines. • 1543 provides ideal Hereford markings for today’s market and has loads of performance without lacking eye appeal. She has plenty of depth, is thick across the top and nearly flawless in structure. • BW 75 lb.
