Middle Georgia State College Foundation, Inc. Annual Report
In early 2012, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia announced plans to consolidate Macon State College and Middle Georgia College. It was a daunting challenge to combine the academics, activities, traditions, character and histories of two colleges into one. Adeptly led by a focused consolidation team, however, faculty and staff successfully navigated through an emotional year of difficult changes, choices and decisions; in January 2013, Middle Georgia State College was established. The philanthropic foundations of the two institutions, Macon State College (MSC) Foundation and Middle Georgia College (MGC) Foundation, also joined forces. A committee of eight trustees, four from each foundation, carefully considered all options to determine the course of action to best serve the donors, interests, and assets of both. Ultimately, the boards approved the committee’s recommendation that the foundations be realigned, rather than merged. The former MGC Foundation became Middle Georgia State College Real Estate Foundation, Inc., to manage property and land holdings. To oversee the college’s philanthropic assets and activities, the former MSC Foundation became Middle Georgia State College Foundation, Inc. (MGSCF). The MGSCF is governed by a board comprised of trustees of both former foundations.
Together, we are committed to enabling Middle Georgia State College to achieve its extraordinary potential. We believe that higher education promotes economic development, transforms society and elevates the quality of life of all citizens. We believe high quality academic opportunities should be available to all who seek to realize their ambitions. We are dedicated to building a great university for Middle Georgia and beyond. We have the experience, expertise and will to do this; and with the ongoing and unwavering support of alumni and friends of the past, present and future, we can make it happen. First & Last Gala and Silent Auction In September, the Foundation hosted the First & Last Gala to celebrate the legacy of Macon State College and mark the historic occasion of impending consolidation with Middle Georgia College.
